Title: Removing pop rivets
Post by: Bob Belter on October 06, 2011, 09:49:15 AM
Ahoy, Eagles, BusFolk,
I recently had occasion to remove a bunch of pop rivets from the #3, #4 baggage bay doors on my -01 Eagle.  Yuh  ---  a 'crunch'  ---  first one ever of a vehicle done 'in person'.
To remove the rivet by drilling, you virtually MUST knock the pin out of the rivet.  A proper sized punch is essential.
I whacked away with my punch and hammer, and found some to be particularly resistant.  And then  ---  an inspiration!!!
I have an 'air palm nailer' from Harbor Freight ($29.95).  Used to whack nails in close quarters  --  works great.  I used it ---  just a 'bump' or two against the punch, and the pin was out.  Very fast and successful.
