Title: Onan Generator trouble HELP
Post by: papatony on October 04, 2011, 11:57:09 AM
Hi guys I just had the stator in my onan Marquis 7000 short out. I need a source beside onan for a replacement I just can't pay their price right now..Even a used one would do. Model # 7NHM FA 26106B  Ser. #E 910390734.  If I can't find one I will have a great engine with only 300 hrs. on it for sale.      thanks guys  Tony

for a honda stator you are looking at a grand,   how do you know it's a stator?

I would go to eBay and set up an alert on that model.  You might also see if the stator cross-references to other models as well.  Your best bet will be to buy a whole gen set, especially if you can find one with, say, a blown engine.

The other option is to take the stator to a shop and have it re-wound.  I would guess about $1k or so.

I get them from ebay for $60 to $80.
You have to look closely at the photos as the gear system is very particular and there's a lot of versions out there. But I've had good luck finding them.
They are all cheepo construction, plastic gears, brush assemblies held by plastic that melts easily on long difficult starts, etc.  Even Onan origionals are pretty junky.
Get a spare, you'll be happy you did...

Why does a long, difficult start melt a stator?

Do you mean starting under a big load?

Don't understand what starting has to do with a stator otherwise?
