Title: Engine not stopping
Post by: JLL on October 01, 2011, 01:11:43 PM
I converted my 4106  21 years ago and drove it the first 17 years with no problems.
Now it seems like every time I take it out there is some thing new.  Now  several times lateley when I turn the switch off the engine keeps running for a short while. when it dies it just gets slower until it finally quits.  The intruments on the dash turns off but not the engine, Any Ideas?

JLL -

Engine kill air cylinder on the governor housing is probably all gummed up inside.  Take it apart, clean and reassemble with fresh silicone lubricant and all should be well.

But before you do all that, try shutting it down by hand in the engine compartment.  Use the rear controls to start/stop, but push on the lever by hand to see if it shuts off quickly.  If it does, then the above fix should work.  If it doesn't, then further diagnostics are in order.

BTW, I'm next door to you in Fresno, number's in my profile.  Wanna share a Pepsi?

If it won't shut down by hand fast as RJ stated you have a injector sticking or someone has the starting aid adjustment out of whack

good luck

My skinner valve requires roughly an annual shot of weasel piss.  The reminder is that the engine takes its time to shut down.  Couple of squirts and its good to go for another year.

In a bus I recently purchased it did something similar. Turned out the "arm" for the fuel shutoff had rotated on the shaft so that it hit the turbo housing before cutting off the fuel completely. I had to rotate it back some while it was running so that I could shut it down. NOT fun working between the blower belt while running.

ROTFLMAO. Hard enough to find weasels any more, even more so to get piss out of one. Thanks for the screw'n EPA!

BO,

It's all available online: http://www.murrayslures.com/urine.html (http://www.murrayslures.com/urine.html)

You've got to respect the guy that collects it from mountain lions and bears.

Look for a bad ground on the skinner valve.

Thanks Guys for the input.      It will be a while before i get a   chance to work on the bus but I'm sure with the advice.  I'll be able to find the problelm.  The hard part will be trying to catch that weasel                                                                                                                  And to RJ Long you have been to my place once.  I'll call you some time and have  that pepsi with tou.

JLL,

Send me an email and I can probably help you with getting a new shutdown solenoid.
