I ran across this old ScenicCruiser in Oklahoma City today while out doing some rat killing, and as luck would have it, I had my camera with me. This old girl was really in good shape.

One of the things that I found on it that really amazed me was the condition of all the window glass, it didn't have anything on it broken or cracked, and the body was in terrific shape.

Paul Lawry would have loved it, she was sporting a Route 66 Theme and desert art work. All of the chrome or stainless was in good shape, tires looked good. Owner was not around so I could not talk to him.

Sporting a California tag and someone has spent some time to fix this old girl up. Other than the color, I couldn't find much wrong with it to tell you the truth.

That sure is a gorgeous coach. Has to have mega air in there as it's painted black. Or am I just thinking about how how it gets down here in Southwest Florida? have you seen photos of the red stretched Scenecruiser that comes to Jacks Rally? There are a few really nice Scenies out there.

I have never seen the red one up close and personal, but from the photo's I have seen it is a show stopper.

It seems we all spot the coaches along the way. Maybe we should leave a note on their windshield and invite them to come to our board. I'll bet there are a lot of bus nuts out there don't even know about us.

A nice looking old hoopie indeed. Made me wonder? When I first returned to Oklahoma, I rode a hound from Oakland Calfornia to OKC and the # was 5548, I still remember it. Wonder if this was it? Man, an ocean of time has flowed under the bridge since then eh?

Box Car Okie, The Scenicruiser that you speak of 5548 was PD-4501-901 and my records show it was scrapped in Little Rock,Arkansas 06/1978.
I bet the trip you speak of was a through Scenicruiser San Francisco,CA to Atlanta,GA.
Fred Rayman who is a Scenicruiser historian and a retired bus driver said the 5548 was the first Greyhound Scenicruiser that he drove when he was starting out as a bus driver in May of 1969.
The black Scenicruiser that you saw in OKC,OK was PD-4501-082.

Two weeks ago my brother called to tell me he spotted this bus on I-44 heading east out of Tulsa.
Tom McNally wrote me to say:
"082 now belongs to Tony Allen of San Diego. coincidentally, he contacted me early last week to say he would be stopping by here on his way to his folks house in Indy. They do not know about the bus, so it will be a surprise. A bunch of us got a chance to drive 082 back in May for "Scenicruise 2011" in Arizona. Tony also owns 468"
This bus used to belong to Frank Mooney of CA. and had been up for sale for a little while. Here are some inside pics of this same bus that were posted when it was for sale

Nice, but I kind of knew that to begin with. When they are pristine and neat as a pin on the outside, you just naturally figure they are going to be sweet looking on the inside.

That bus was stolen once several years ago I don't where they ever found it I never heard but it was MIA for a while,for you guys that don't think somebody will steal a 50 year old bus lol think again

Clifford, you are right about it being stolen. Frank Monney told me the story, and it is quite a story, I just cannot remember the details! He bought it from the folks that it was stolen from as I remember. My conversation with Frank was one of the nicest I have had with any bus nut!

I'll let Tony know that he was spotted again in OKC. He'll get a kick out of that. When he was here in Peoria, I told him that bus is hard to hide ! Bill Dumas owned the bus when it was stolen. He recovered it, and sold it to Frank Mooney. Then Tony bought it from Frank.
I believe Bill Dumas "sold" the bus to someone on credit, and they never made good on any payments. They took off with it for about two years maybe. Way too trusting move for the world today. I got the chance to drive it about 700+ miles back in May from San Diego to AZ. Nice Scenic.
