Title: N65 injector questions.
Post by: JohnVickrey on September 12, 2011, 06:12:52 PM
I recently posted a question in The Spare Tire about who had the best deal on N65 injectors.

Several people posted suggestions and questions.  One post by luvrbus: "If you are going to change buy something beside the antique N65 the C65 and 7G65 are by far better injectors the N series are old technology"

good luck

Can someone explain why the injectors C65 and 7G65 are better??

I sent you a PM John explaining but I guess I sent to myself it is in my box lol so I'll take a shot here

The C-65 is a smog injector that has a built in retarder to prevent all the smoke on take off the N series are famous for

The7G65
It uses a different metering system, more accurate delivery, atomizes the fuel better, has better spray pattern, more adjustable ability and a higher pop pressure makes for cleaner burning  better injector than the N series

good luck.

The N65 is famous for needing to have advanced cam timing.  As I understand it the C65 does not, it uses regular timing.  What does the 7G65 use?  Having done it, not having to take off the cam wheels would be a major decision factor in choosing new injectors!

Clifford, based on John's profile I assumed he was asking with respect to a 71 series.  I thought the 4104 usually had a 671?

I know Brian but with the newer injectors there is no need for the A timing I never was a fan of A timing to start with that was really for trucks with 10 speeds doesn't do you any good in a 4 speed bus just more smoke and more fuel usage

good luck

Thanks  Guys,
I'm trying to get away from the smoke and excess fuel consumption.  I get 7 to 9 Miles per gallon if I keep from makin' black smoke.  Sometimes it's real hard to keep the smoke down.  Co-pilot has authorized the purchase of injectors and I want to spend her money wisely. ;D

Cliffor, that was my thought!  I was thinking that if John has a 6-71N with N65's and wants to go to smaller injectors,  then his engine may already be advanced timed.  On the other hand if he has larger injectors and wants go down to N65's, then his engine is probably standard timed.  Picking an injector that will work well with the timing that he has was my concern.  I'm with you, knowing the little that I have learned about these things changing the timing sucks...

Yes, it is standard timing.  It has N75's because the PO should have cleaned the fuel tank out instead of having bigger injectors installed trying to get more fuel.
