Last nite 10 pm grandson( Cash)3yr old jumped off couch landed on toy. just below rib cage. passed out. stop breathing! My Daughter( Amber) Cash's mother had to do chest compressions and quick breaths (after forcing his jaw open) 6 breaths later he started breathing on his own! Before any of you experts 2ND guess her actions she is the nurse manager of a heart hospital. He spent the nite in pediatric trauma intensive care. liver was bruised but no permanent damage. Point being .all the prep in the world can't = knowledge. Could I (grandpa) have done it. prob but hope I never have to find out. Would I give a about liability with his life in balance? I saw the previous topic go from basic to political. Make this political! Bob lucky Pawpaw
Bob.
I agree with you. Glad to hear Cash is ok.
James
Glad to hear the kid is OK Bob.
You touched on a favorite theme of mine though. A lot of people take 1st Aid classes with a mental picture of some stranger that they may need to use their skills on - highway accident, something in the workplace, whatever. The reality is that the most likely candidate for your first aid skills will be an immediate family member. That's the best reason I know of to get the training.
First Aid/CPR is an annual training requirement by my employer.
Several years ago, while heading to my sisters cabin to do some work, I came across a car in the ditch, upside down and smoking. 3 adults and 2 babies (under 1 year) had either escaped or been thrown out of the car.
Got everyone a safe distance from the car and did quick assessments. Minor cuts/bruising for 2 adults ( babies appeared fine!), but the lone male driver had a nasty deep gash in his head, and was very disoriented.
The years of training just kind of took over.
Hope I don't ever need to use it again.

Cash Carter is doing just fine is real proud of his new bracelet the hospital gave him. And the band aide where the IV was. He does not remember anything of the accident. Bob
After more than 25 years in the business of emergency medicine, I can tell you the most important item to keep in your basic first aid kit is the belief that there is something more important and helpful than band aids.
Prayer!
Glad to hear everything is working out fine. Keep a close watch out for those we love, tell them everyday you love them and always be ready to help out.
Grant
Glad Cash is doing fine.
On the same note my family, including brothers, daughter, son, nephew, nieces and their friends are or were at Lake Powell last week.
On a hiking trip, the under 30 year old,s that is,my nice jumped and landed on heel and broke or crushed it.
Her brother is a Denver fire fighter and always carries a first aid kit. Needless to say he went from brother to full blow paramedic with all training coming in to play. Put a splint on the foot and then carried her one and a half miles
over some pretty rough country
back to their boat to get back to camp and then the hospital.
We will have to wait till she gets home to find out the final outcome.

Cash, stop doin' everything you see Pawpaw do. You're scaring us!
Glad you're OK.
Dennis
Glad he is ok.
Does Cashs name have to do with Johnny by any chance?
Johnny cash was my grandpas favorite artist. I listened to his cds the whole time that I was driving this weekend.
Eric
yes and June that's the family secret ::) Parents attended the country music festival in Nashville for the week last year. Truth is they really never explained their choice. He is just a cool out going 3 yr old busnut that can spot one before me and knows what s&s are.
Uncle Andy is going to start calling him Crash.

Good one Andy!
I'm glad all is well! And Grandpa should get some of those cool bracelets and give him one when he first comes in, so he won't have to go to the hospital to get them anymore!
Dennis you'ver heard it before I'm sure! Monkey see, monkey do! ;)
;D BK ;D
My oldest son is nicknamed crash. He can't walk without hurting himself tho.
Thanks all!! after this weekend and the other thread going so political I had to vent. To all that know me personally and thru the board thanks for your concern about Cash. Good outcome this time!!!! We are all individuals and it is probable that any first aid we will administer will be to our loved ones so let us be prepared . Knowledge and physical supplies. safe Bussing to all. Bob
