So I am re-installing all the junk I took out nine months ago when I pulled the engine out, and I get to the belt tensioning cylinder. I like the idea of turning the little valve and being able to change the belt on the side of the road, so I am keeping it it, plus mine works fine. Or so I thought.
I go to hook up the hoses and they don't fit. I figure the hose to the base of the cylinder should go to the pressure regulator so it gets a regulated amount of air to put the right tension on the belt. the other side should go to the valve so that if you turn it the cylinder gets compressed to let you change the belt. My hoses go the other way, and they aren't long enough that you can connect them either way, they only go one way.
So I think, and ponder, and consider, and look in my manuals and and parts book. Nothing. I go to the on-line MC-9 manual and it has a detailed air schematic, and wala, there is the connection diagram. Sure enough, my cylinder has been connected backwards all this time. Regulated air goes to the base of the cylinder to push it out, full pressure goes to the top of the cylinder to push it back in when you need to release tension on the belt. Huh.
Just thought I'd share. Not nearly as exciting as a new down-pipe from my turbo or getting the engine to start, but it's what I got today...
