Title: Did everone weather Irene OK?
Post by: JackConrad on August 28, 2011, 05:32:38 AM
Hope everyone has weathered Irene without any damage.  All we got here near Greensboro, NC was a little wind, no rain and no damage.  Jack

We are fine. Spent the night in Super Walmart in Frederick, MD. Going back home after they open the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

Jack ,
I was front & center in Ocean City, NJ. Alot of wind and even more rain for nearly 18 hours straight. Breaks in between, but consistently for the duration. I have seen equal winds in previous storms, but the continuous rain was uncommon. No damage, surprisingly little flooding, no power outages. All in all, definitely dodged a bullet.

Hope everyone else faired as well as we did.

Gary

We're back in the woods now (or should I say "out of the woods now" :) An 18" dia tree fell about 15 feet from where the coach would have been. Two more trees fell across the gravel drive to get to the camp site...so in retrospect, we're super glad we moved the coach. Still without power in a large chunk of the area here...ran the genny all day...the camp site has power thankfully, but across the street and in town, it's still gone. Saw some damage...nothg earth shattering, but definitely tree-falling damage to houses, a truck. Weathering this in a solid house would have been uneventful...weathering it in an open parking lot surrounded by open fields on the top of a hill....that was eventful. Glad it's over...you easterners can have your hurricanes...i'll stick with my michigan blizzards and tornadoes thank you very much. the endless torrential rain was getting old really fast. still raining as a matter of fact. So it's rained on and off (mostly on) since around 1pm yesterday here. That's nearly 30 hours of rain.

We never lost power, but this morning two tree's fell.
One fell across the main driveway, I spent all day cutting it up with the help of my wife and my son.

The other one fell across the front of my Porsche 944 & my dodge dart,no damage to the dart.

You do realize the people who did not weather the storm well will not be able to post!

We are getting a lot of rain up here in Vermont, not much wind but many people are being evacuated from the lower areas.  Much flooding and roads closed or washed out, we have not lost power where I live, but some have.  I watched one historic covered bridge wash away, built in 1790, what a shame.
