Title: Outside Door Handle
Post by: gulfyankee on August 27, 2011, 11:03:44 AM
Question....I currently have the factory original inside door swing handle on the dash. As the bushings are getting worn out, and it doesn't really hold the door completely shut on the highway, and I really don't feel like trying to replace them(it has locked us out on several occasions), I have seen buses with an RV style flush door latch. Is this as simple as ordering one from a RV supplier and installing it, or is this a different type for our buses? I ask because my door is a lot thicker on my bus than the one on my camper is. Thanks!

Here's something else that might help:

OTOH, give Luke a call (1-888-262-2434) and he'll have the correct parts on a UPS truck for you to rebuild the door closer.  When they're adjusted properly, they work much better than an RV latch.

FWIW & HTH. . .

My 4104 has the bullet proof original system.

My 4107 has a truck/RV type plus a dead bolt, both are a royal PITA and the dead bolt locked me inside when it broke at a rest stop. The truck/Rv handle keeps popping open, I have spent countless hours trying to make it work.

In case you haven't gotten my message, do not remove that original!! It works every time but may need adjusting and some grease once in a while. Adjusting is simple and described well in the manual.

If you have to replace some bushings just consider it done with for the rest of your and the bus' life.

If you really have to remove it, just remove the handle and leave the rest intact so it will be easy to go back to. You won't be sorry!!
