Title: Detroit 8V/71 oil consumption per fuel-oil and mileage record form M-27
Post by: roadrunnertex on August 23, 2011, 08:36:36 AM
The M-27 form that Greyhound used when the fleet was 8V/71 powered back in the mid 1970's.
The form was used to keep track of fuel and oil consumption and miles driven each trip and also from city to city trips and number of maintenance defects on the coach.
Greyhound maintenance oil useage guide was If oil use is more than 150 miles per quart notify the maintenance supervisor and post on the M-7 maintenance form.
So that equals out to more than 600 miles and 1 gallon of oil use before Greyhound would get into a major shop for repair.
This form is dated 3-1976.

I remember the M27 quite well at Brewster's, (subsidiary of Greyhound). Had to be filled out at the end of each day. It was kept in a metal slot/pocket mounted on a vertical panel near the driver. We got the mileage from the hubodometer on the pass side rear wheel.

A 2 stroke DD in good shape with no leaks doesn't use much oil. Not many like that nowadays.
