Title: Turbo exhaust connector
Post by: bevans6 on August 22, 2011, 08:14:34 AM
Where do I buy the connector that attaches to the exhaust output of the turbo?  None of the local places I have asked have any ideas.  The exhaust side of the turbo is a 4.5" ID recess about 1" deep and has a vee-band clamp type ridge around the OD.

Advice is appreciated!

Thanks, Brian

DME Incorporated in Santa Fe Springs, CA, 562-921-0464

IIRC, they custom made one for me, using what they call a Detroit Turbo flange to fit on the turbo. $300, but that's all I could find at the time.

Thanks!  the funny part is I asked at my local Traction store and they didn't know what I was talking about...

I will give them a call.  The actual vee band clamp is no problem, it's the part that goes into the turbo and out to the exhaust pipe that I can't find.

The portion of the exhaust pipe attached to my Series 60 turbo just has a flange formed on one end and uses a V band clamp to attach to the turbo.

Brian,  what I think you are needing is the exit down pipe.   I just replaced my down pipe and turbocharger.

I ordered new pipe from Prevost for $122.00  I could have ordered the 5" weld flange but I wanted to see who the manufacture was/is...

The pipe is made by Caron Tube.   There website is www.tubecaron.com (http://www.tubecaron.com)  Interesting enough Prevost is using all Breeze "V" band clamp> 1V0588A02

There's those big truck exhaust places up the Dixie Road corridor west of the Toronto Airport.

Texis and the truck exhaust place are two.

total exhaust looks like they have the right vee band clamp but it looks like I will have to machine a spigot to fit into the turbo.  PITA but I can do it easily enough  - whittling a chunk of billet steel 6" in diameter and and an inch thick down to a vee-band clamp flange adaptor isn't my idea of fun...

Why does the military insist on not using the same parts and standards as civilian applications?  No wonder the military often pays more than the same product for civilian use.

That's why mine cost $300 from DME. They custom fabbed a 90 elbow that I needed on the end of the "Detroit turbo flange", as they called it.

Well, I ordered my "8V71T vee band clamp, flange OD 5.25"" from the truck exhaust place, at first they had none and had no idea where to go, then they went and asked the other guy, who had a box of them in his office for some reason...

they think the flange is indeed a machined part, which sucks, but at least I have the clamp coming.  The clamp would be hard to make...

I put the turbo on the manifold with the engine in the bus.  I have to relocate the rear switch box a few inches, the exhaust pipe is going to occupy about an inch of the same space as the switch box.  why is it that things seem so much bigger when they are installed?

It's all in the details Brian... That's what takes time. One leads into the next, etc. But you'll be driving it soon...
