Well the house I've been renting for 6 years has been sold. It was for sale for 5 years and I really figured no one in their right mind would buy it. Silly me, anyway, tell me about taking "ol Magic down to Quartzite for the winter. Do you really just stake out a place in the desert and call it home? Is the weather livable?
Food, water, sewer, all accessible? Is the water drinkable? Can I venture off road in my MC 7 and not stick it up to the axles? (remember I already asked about Bonneville) ..
I was not planning on using the bus heavily till next summer but things change. It's gonna cost 700 for fuel to get there and 700 to get home, at a minimum, assuming good luck and minimal parts carnage.
Any advise is appreciated. '
Thanks, John M.
BLM opens the area up Sept 15 cost for long term is 180 dollars till April 15 they have water, and a dump station in the long term parks you can park any where you choose in those areas, plenty of stores to buy food, restaurants, diesel fuel which is usually a good price except at Pilot weather is good most of the time somedays you have wind very little rain if you do have rain it is in early Jan or middle Jan plenty of junk to buy LOL
Then you have the big tent and the GM and Eagle rally in mid Jan.
If you want power some place will rent a space with full hook up for 350 a month and up and no you bury up to the axles even with rain all in all if you never been there it is a fun place you will see lots of people on this board there, rocks are big there if you are into that hope to see you in Jan we live 100 miles from Quartzsite buy the drinking water plenty of R/O vending machines 5 gals for a buck
good luck
Thanks luvrbus, I really hope to make it there. Good lord willin and the creek don't rise. It can get to -40 here in the winter, might be a nice change of pace. jm
Where is this place ? It sounds to good to be true.
Arizona, 20 miles east of the California border, on I-10
Used to be able to get into RV pit stop for $175 mo w/ full hookups, if you get in early enough in the season, like around the beginning of October. They changed owners last year and some things changed though, so don't know if that is still a good price. If dry camping, I wouldn't arrive much before mid to late October, still pretty hot till then. Not uncommon to see 90's well into late october.
ok, I just looked at their website, $170/mo plus electric. It's not a high class resort by any means, but it's cheap, clean, and right in town.

It's been in the 110 range last 2 weeks but starting to kool down some now. I had to come back from Canada to get check up on cancer treatment and so far still cancer free. Will be my last venture to Canada as even with all the insurance cards in the world in Canada without paying a m in of 650.00 just to get to see a doctor then plus whatever he wanted to charge. and gasoline equal to 5.50 cents a gallon or 1.25 per litre.
so from October to april/May best weather in the USA and very affordable I usually spent 7-8 months then travel in 4905 with goldwing in tow.
Quartzsite AZ the best in the winter .

Congratulations, Larry!
Does the BLM not let one stay in the summer, or is it just a different fee? Not that one would want to be there in the summer.
Thomasinnv, rv pit stop looks like a bargain. Thanks for the tip. I don't know if I can handle a winter without snow. :) jm
In about a month when you see all the RV's with Canadian plates headed south fall in line they will lead you to Quartzsite LOL glad you are doing better Larry Quartzsite would not be the same without you
good luck
word of caution about the pitstop, if you go mid season they do raise the rates. If you get in by the end of October you can secure your rate for the winter. That is what my friend tells me anyway that has spent the last several winters parked there.
Keep in mind that there are a lot of other places in Az. where you can stay too. All depends on what you want/like in terms of cost, crowds, amenities, weather, etc. We will be able to tell who you are, you will be running around it shorts and t shirt or tank top and we will be in long pants and light jackets. ;D
Belfert,
Blm only open for the six month period have to leave the other six months and they turn off well water and anything else for support and hope you can exist in over 125 temperature don't ask me for help because I will be long gone LOL.
Mex-Busnut.
Thanks for the kind words the results were worth the 3.5 months of daily treatments the alternative wasn't looking too good .
Live every day like it's your last one as it could be. tell your loved ones u love em every day you might not be able to next time.
