Title: I am now off crack!
Post by: Mex-Busnut on August 15, 2011, 05:51:30 PM
Dear friends,

Continuing with my thinking about when I post a question, I should also post the solution, should I find one. Why? Maybe some future equally crazy busnut might be looking into the same problem.

See original post here: http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=20781.msg226997#msg226997 (http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=20781.msg226997#msg226997)

I posted about my front crossbeam that the Torsilastic suspension is connected to, and how it was cracked. See picture number one. My welders thoroughly cleaned and rewelded the break. Then they had a another shop press them a U-shaped 1/4-inch steel plate, which was located over the section and welded in place. Then a length of U-channel was welded on top for final strengthenning. Check out my PIX, and see what you think!

And thanks for all your input!

Steve,

I am no structural engineer, but that looks good to me. Good job. Looks like your friend did good work. Just don't mention what size welder he used, and you will be fine ;).

Seriously, though, it looks good to me.

God bless,

John

Dr. Steve, if those welds got good penetration you should be good for another 30+ years!

Glad to hear you kicked the crack!
