This is one of those projects I gotta get done before I can continue on my bus. So it isnt a bus, but is something probably many of you have experienced. Im removing some of that outdoor green carpeting off a wooden ramp. The glue is black and thick, almost like asphalt. Whoever put this stuff in did it so it would not come up lol!! They did a GREAT job that is by FAR outlasting the carpeting. Any ideas on what this might be or how to remove it so I can lay down tile? When I heat it with my heat gun it stinks to high heaven and just softens it up a little. Goop remover doesnt work on it either.
Try waste vegetable oil, it destroys everything else ;D. On a serious note it could very well break down the chemical componants of the glue. If not WVO try straight acetone.
You could contact a local home improvement store to see if they have anything for that. If they don't, contact the manufacturer of a similar adhesive product; they'd have to know.
What ever chemical you use is going to soak into the wood and most likely keep anything from sticking in the future. Just something to keep in mind.

To stop the soaking into the substrate you could try methanol. It will evaporate and not leave a residue to continue the reaction process. Most of the dye stains we use in the fingerprint world are carried into the glue fumed fingerprints. The methanol will penetrate the glue really quickly but evaporate readlily leaving the dye stain behind.
Okay, I will try all suggestions! Thanks!
