Title: SKEETER SMUDGE POTS
Post by: boxcarOkie on August 13, 2011, 07:20:51 AM

Here is a neat little project, doesn't cost a lot of cash, it is easy to do, can do it all in one weekend, and best of all, it works!  Unfortunately, it kind of dates me a little and that isn't all that cool.  I remember them from the fifties, there were called Smudge Pots.  http://boxcarokie.com/eagle-bus-photos/ (http://boxcarokie.com/eagle-bus-photos/)  Just click on the link.

Happy Hunting .....

Don't know about Smudge Pots but saw lots of them on trucks; early flares.

Are you buiding um, restoring um or putting them out at night to scare the really old folks. I remember those around road construction sites when I was a kid in the late 50's..

10 miles South of Smithville Tx. in the boonies. My mailing address says Muldoon but I'm 10 miles west of there. I don't see any lights at night except the stars.

Hey Glen,

Do you know Ronnie Wunsch?  He used to be my next door neighbor growing up.  I think he is the fire chief at the Muldoon VFD.  I think the area around La Grange is beautiful, but the land around there costs too much for me.

I used to use orchard smudge pots to heat the gospel tent during revivals in colder weather. Last time I used one was just 2 years ago. They can get a little smelly.

I would never use mine inside, but they are nice outside, just set them down next to the lawn chairs or the patio table and light  'em up.  I don't use kerosene in them either, so that helps.

Hey David, Don't know the boys at the VFD. They hold there meeting in the middle of week and until I quit working out in the Odessa Tx. Oilfields they wont see my smiling ugly face. I think the land prices are nuts everywhere. I bought 100 acres 5 years ago here.
