Title: 6V92 DDEC and V731 Value??
Post by: Highway Yacht on August 09, 2011, 10:21:17 AM
Does anybody have an idea what a fair market value or starting point would be on a good running 1989 6V92 DDEC engine with a V731 Allison Transmission with all the sensors, turbo, exhaust piping, computer boxes, harnesses, etc.?? I would rather sell it as a complete kit and allow the buyer to remove everything so he can get everything he needs in regards to wiring harnesses and such. The engine and trans are still in the bus. I know there probably isn't that much of a market for a left hand rotation engine or a V-drive Transmission in the bus world now days since the V-drive is only used in a few buses.. No...the engine does not have a fresh rebuild 10K ago like all the other Detroit's but it does run well.. Any help in figuring out an asking price would be helpful..  Btw, the engine / trans is from a 1989 RTS Bus..

Jimmy, check the V731 close if it has a V731R the engine will be a right handed engine the RTS came both ways,  the GM guys like that setup to replace the old 8v71 most of those setups sell from 2500 bucks up let me know if you buy I have a guy looking for a 6v92 lefty

Clifford... I was under the impression that the only "Right Handed" RTS's were the ones that had the ZF Transmission but that shows you how little I know.. I just sent you a PM..

Careful with your placement of the "R"

There is an "R" for retarder, and there is an "R" for reverser.

Perhaps this is how you see both in the same package?  VR731R

Is the "R" for retarder at the end or with the "V"  ????

One application, the reverser went with right turning S50 DDEC 4 strokes in the RTS.

Nope, good for lots and lots of GM coaches/suburbans and transits. As well as some competitors.

Others will give the dirty details, but in rough terms, anything after the 4104.

That drive train is desirable for GM busnuts.

You should be getting private messages from interested parties...

You can use that 6V-92TA and V731 on any bus with a V drive.  Either of the 4104 or 4106 would be a good choice and make them a real hot rod.  Good Luck, TomC

V700 series won't work in a 4104 or older without a rear end change due to the V drive angle.  Will work in 4106's and up.
