Title: Webasto unit needed
Post by: eagle10 on August 01, 2011, 01:54:51 PM
I need my Webasto 2020 heater repaired or replaced. Who can I contact for help? I took the unit out and sent it to a marine repair center six weeks ago. (Long story) Today they tell me that it is a late 1980's model that is not worth repairing. (Needs fuel pump, clutches, etc. etc.) This is out of a 1992 Liberty that we recently purchased. New, reconditioned, ???, may be an option.

At one time this company had several of those units.  http://busfixx.tripod.com/busservice/id5.html (http://busfixx.tripod.com/busservice/id5.html)

If you live close to a marine dealer those units are common in the upper class marine world most have units laying around from boats

good luck

I have a 24 volt webasto and its the bigger of the 2 size exchangers.

I am not ready to part with it just yet. I may or may not get my e-spar back online and that will dictate what i do with the webasto.

I recently picked up a new circulating pump for mr. e-spar for 100 bucks. If I can land a fuel pump for it, it will be whole again.

Then I would even trade something for the webasto if need be.

Here is some relivent stuff.

In addition to whats here the brain can be opened up and tested to see specific failures. There is a tester they sell to plug into it, one of these days Im gonna build the tester with some help from an electrical yoda I know.

For any of you guys really wanting to know the ends and outs for a Webasto or Aqua Hot the Fmca Rally in Madison WI is the place to be Aug 10-13
They have some sharp guys doing seminars on those units they cover all of it, the best seminars you can attend if you are a owner or looking for info I attended 2 and never regretted it and don't even like the diesel fired units lol
Eagle 10 if you live close there will dealers there selling new ,used and refurb units and prices are not bad either

good luck

Thanks for the ideas and contacts. It looks like I will be sending it out to Bus Service in KS as they tell me they have all the parts needed to do any repairs. I will let you all know how it all works out. Soon I hope!!!!

Take your webasto back. Don't leave it with the folks who claimed to condemn it.

The parts are of value to whoever ends up helping you.

happy coaching!

"Not worth repairing?" Sounds like a load of BS! The clutches are inexpensive maintenance items that should be replaced periodically anyways. There are oring kits for the fuel pump and fuel shut off solenoid. No big whoop. If the fuel pump really needs replacement (I'd like to know why they think it needs replacement), it's not that expensive (compared to a whole new unit). 2020's are highly rebuildable, have good parts availability and are not too difficult to work on. Just about every single part in the thing can be replaced. Unless the thing is rusted out beyond recognition it can be repaired without major cost. I'd get on Webasto's website, download their excellent service and parts manual and take a stab at it yourself. Lot's of helpful people here will assist you.
