Dear Friends,
I just recieved the fourth edition (2009) of the book "Traveler's Guide to Mexican Camping", by Mike and Terri Church (ISBN: 978-0-9823101-0-6). I believe it is a very well-written book, and even for me (I have lived in Mexico most of my life!), I found it has a ton of very usefull information. Plus the authors are busnuts, though I don't know if they are on this great forum.
This latest edition also has a section on RVing in Guatemala and another on RVing Belize.
I know this is strange, but a seller in the U. K. on Ebay had both the lowest price for the book and lowest mailing costs to Mexico!

And no: I don't work for them!
We've bought every revision of this book since they started printing it. We generally give away our "old" version when a new one comes out and order the new one. It is an excellent resource for travel in Mexico - I can't speak to the countries further south but I assume it is as good there as it is in Mexico. Campground directories in Mexico are a bit different than in the rest of North America. We still use a 2004 version of Woodalls and would be surprised to find many campgrounds in that book that aren't still in existence. Not so in Mexico - they spring up, wither and die with alarming speed so its good to have Church's latest version. Once you buy the book though you can go to their website and get the latest revisions right up to the moment you leave on your trip. They also have (or used to have anyway) a Mexican travel buddy page where you could post either your willingness to chaperone or your desire for a guide for your trip. We've taken several couples across over the years - not that we have such a wealth of knowledge but sometimes people just feel better travelling with someone else.
Not too many replies I see. many in the US and Canada think Mexico is just a non stop shoot out these days....not me. I've been listening to the "stories" of this and that over the years. the latest with drug wars is no different. The narcos and their associates are getting killed, but the last figures I have seen still show Mexico to be a much safer vacation destination for tourists than many.
When the times comes I'll be picking the book up....
Your exactly rite! is my impression. will admit it. Have talked to some Imigrants that say they left because it's like the old wild west cowboy days shoot and take what you want. sorry scares me. Yes I know it's mostly not all that way- but to chancy for this old guy. Bob Been there in the past beautiful country.
We go to Corozal,Dangriga and Hopkins Belize about every 4 or 5 years we love the country of Belize ( they speak English) but no way in hell would I drive the Mexican hiways now days to get there life to is to short to begin with,we are afraid to even take the boat and go fishing in Mexican waters, our illegal drug business here has ruined Mexico for most Americans IMO
good luck
