Title: PLEASE CLARIFY

When does a hobby cross over the line and become an obsession.

I hear a lot of talk about this great hobby we have going for us, refurbishing and restoring these old hoopies.  So here is a question for all you bus-nut overachievers:  "If you are currently spray painting all of your sheet metal screws in order to color coordinate your present project, doesn't that qualify as an obsession?"

Like Van sez ..... "It's the little things that you do that count the most."

By the way ... Where is you Van Man?

If you own a bus you are already obsessed.... maybe you are obsessed with an obsession...

I have been using a square drive pan head screw.  They drive good and the square drive does not have a tendancy to strip.  They are a little more aesthetically pleasing IMO.

It would only be obsessive if you were powder coating them.

Okie,

I think you are still alright.  If you had been totally obsessed you would have turned all of the screws so that the "+" was facing in the same direction on all of them before you painted them.   ;D

Nope! Looks like you used a spray can! Individual hand painted with layer of clear coat would have been needed! ;D

The screw in the third row 6th from the left looks like it has a run in the paint so you might want to re-shoot that one..... ;D

(what obsession)

Don't the heads just scratch when they are installed?  I bought a few stainless screws with the heads already painted black for a few things on my bus.  They look better than plain stainless as I was installing some black plastic.

BUDDY DAWG:  I use both, square and panhead.  They both work well, you can get a better bite with the square, but the panhead will work fine, as long as you keep a good bit in the tool.

LEN SILVA:  Powder coating would be cool tho.  You have to admit.  Wonder how big an oven I need?

DEPEWTEE:  I think I am okay, stepped on a yard rake and it whacked me between the eyes earlier this spring, and I was dressing in women's clothes there for awhile, but yes, I seem to be okay now.

CHOPPER SCOTT:
Stainless steel?  Yeah sure, and then I get the lecture on "How I Hate My Kitchen" nope, gonna stick with what works.  This is for an entertainment center (inside the first bay on the curb side) and stainless would be overkill.

CLIFFORD LUVRBUS:
Yes, I admit it, I am kind of over the top on a 27 year old bus, but it keeps me out of the beer joints.  You need to send me your contact information.  (ldsrr91@gmail.com)  We are going to be in Albq NM with Smith & Jones 9-3 thru 9-6 and then we are heading west.  Send me an email if you want to get together for a brief visit and maybe pick up those Primus Heater Pumps.

THE VAN MAN:  Looks like the first week in September bud ... Campground out by the lake by your house.

GRANTGOOLD: Spray bomb (cleaning the gun is too much trouble for little jobs)  It came from Loooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwies Rustoleum (trade secret ... don't tell anyone).  Tell 'em you are an ex-GI and they give you 10% off (but you might have to show them your tatoo's).

ZIMTOK:  Third from the left?  Huh?  You sure?

BELFERT:  No problems with the paint coming off the screws.  If it is done correctly they seem to hold up rather nicely, repeatedly screwing them in and then taking them out would lead to the problem you mention, but I don't do that.

Gives it a nice clean look, dontcha think?

Tah-Tah, Tootle-Loo ... I will see you.

The work looks great.

I powder coat much of my stuff including fastner heads for bolts. Haven't tried powdercoating screws, but i imagine they would probably still work if the entire screw was done...esp with a pilot hole.. be another time consuming needless task ..but that's what life is about. ;D

Man, I can relate to that.  I had hoped to wrap up this project by the weekend and move onto something Monday, but now, it looks like another week of "getting it right."

Another time consuming needless task to make something just a tab bit better.

Question is, how many of us actually looked at the pic again? Then tried to figure out if he was talking about third from the top, or third from the bottom....LOL

So I am thinking, if you do hire Dr. Kevorkian for a doctor assisted suicide and you live ... can you sue him for malpractice?

It all sounds/looks normal to me  ;D and Im jealous too! Maybe painting them with truck bed paint would make them more scratch resistant?
