The manual for my 68 5A  says to use  Hydraulic Oil - SAE 10

My MC8 manual says the same thing.  I know some use ATF also... other than being sort of clear looking, then10 wt appears to be close to the consistency of the ATF to me... so not sure how much it all matters.  At this point my 8 actually has a mixture of both in it.

I put ATF in it when I got the bus over four years ago.  I didn't know any better, but it has been working fine.

Be sure to never use ATF in a Sheppard system, 10W-40 motor oil only as per the company tech.
