Title: Replace 4106 4 speed

This is my first time posting.I have a 64 4106 with a standard 4 speed,that want to replace with a V730.My question,how much bulkhead do i need to cut out,(i'm not useing the 3" spacer) i'm told going with out the spacer,i'll have to cut more bulkhead...Also the V 730 i have is air shift,and i have a air throttle i can put on.Question,will the air throttle modulator work to modulat the air shift tranny?? I appreciate any and all help i can get....

Wayne,

I don't think you can install a V730 without the 3" spacer. The first problem is drive shaft alignment and I don't think there will be room for right rear engine mount without the spacer. I can get you in touch with someone who has done a few of these swaps if you need some more information, call me at 615 210 4963 and I'll get you his number.

Hi Ken...I have been told by a very good shop,it could be done.But i would need to cut out more bulkhead.also was told it would be very hard to find a 3'' spacer.Hopeing to find somone on here that has had to do this...thanks

I talked with my friend today and he has some 3" spacers. PM me or call and I'll get in touch with him. We both think without the spacer that your driveshaft alignment will result in vibration because the driveshaft is only about 18 inches long and over that distance 3" can cause a severe angle change.

Wayne, before you install that automatic, you ought to check into the fuel mileage penalty reported by busnuts, if you haven't already.

Automatics in buses are quite a bit different than those in cars.
