Title: Another Series 60 question: Anyone removed oil cooler from block before?
Post by: belfert on July 04, 2011, 05:32:44 PM
I got my Series 60 oil cooler cover unbolted a number of days ago.  The problem is I can't get the upper coolant neck out of the block.  It is loose because I can move it back and forth about 1/8".  I just can't get it out.  The service manual says to place a pry bar between the block and the cover below the upper coolant neck and gently pry.  I've used a pry bar and it just won't pop out of the block.

I know most of you are 2 stroke guys, but anyone done this before and have any advice?  The oil fill tube and oil breather tube are sorta in the way and I hope they don't have to come out.

I'm not worried about breaking it.  It just won't come out.  There is just an o-ring holding it in.

I have attached the page from the service manual showing the oil cooler diagram.  Part #9 is the o-ring holding the oil cooler housing to the block.

Bigger pry bar maybe?

I haven't done it, but I do have some pretty large pry bars and when one ain't big enough to do the job I grab a bigger one.

I got it off a couple days ago.  I just had to find the right position for the pry bar.  It sure is held in there tight for a simple o-ring holding it in.

Isn't this the same as the bigger hammer theory?  :D  :D
