I recently mentioned using old firehose to cushion sharp corners. . My response : I have the fire hose on the shelf. I don't have to spend time or money to go get a special wrap or custom sleve. If it in any way would not do as good or better a job I would not use it(I would not compromise safety). Any one else got something that is common around shop that has many uses?
Foam pipe insulation and swimming pool floaty noodles work for corners, too, temporary while parked. If you want permanent your fire hose may be better.

I don't have any fire hose but do have tons of the spiral wrap in metal and plastic and canvas covering lol a 1/2 inch line in a 3 inch fire hose wouldn't do much for me JMW clamps are the best way to go on hoses
good luck
I keep old rubber inner tube, (as well as every piece of junk I get my hands on like a pack rat LOL). I wrap it around hose at a contact point to protect it from rubbing. I use plastic wire ties to hold it.

I do cut the fire hose to smaller pieces to put around smaller lines and use tie wraps. Heeeeheeee. Good softner for sharp edges when you tie things down on trailer also.
Old carpet to lay on ,wipe feet on, asorb oil,etc just throw away when done.
The same with large chunks of cardboard. ;D
The guy that sold me my Bus had several truck bed mats he had put on the ground outside to lay on, work on, kneel on. I talked him out of a chunk, about a half length piece. Its about 5/8" thick rubber, nice to lay down to work on.
On hose, you either have to stop the chaffing, or protect the hose. Its better to stop it by tying the hose down so it wont chaff.

Great idea. And only use plush. Don't settle for second best....you will always regret that misplaced efficiency in the end. ;D

And make sure you have a good shag rake.
I could make a list a mile long of stuff that I use on the derby cars that is used for something other then its original purpose.
As for the hose wraps. I usually run my fuel line thru a heater hose and then thru a piece of 1.5" industrial grade hose. It helps prevent heat transfer to fuel and gives several layers of protection against fires.
