Title: 1970 4905 any 1 know how far the fuel line sits from the bottom of the tank?

I am ready to order the new sender and gage from isspro? i have the depth of the tank but i need the end of the pick up tube ,to find out where i want my emty  to sit on the sender?? i am going to leave plenty of fuel be for i get emty but just need a to know how long is the tube or how far it sits from the bottom,  ps opps the tank is full so i cant see down the hole? so i need ur help>>john

I think you can unscrew the parts and check the length.
Get something with hook like tape measure, slide it down the pipe until it catches
take measurement of that, then measure to bottom of tank.

This was posted on the BNO Board by John Roan:

"A poster on the other board asked how far down the pickup tube goes in the tank on a 4905. As I have one sitting down in the shop, I checked it. The tube goes clear to the bottom and would touch, but there is a 3 to 4inch circular depression below the pickup. It is about 3/8 inch deep. You can see this depression from bottom of tank. It also has baffles about every two feet. They are all slotted for movement of the fuel sender arm; regardless if it ever had one. Maybe someone that is registered could forward this to the other site. Thanks"

Thanks for the good info,i talked to us couch, he said about 1 inch from the bottom  thats good so i ordered the tube style sender at 28 inches long  since my tank is 32 inches tall that will leave me plenty of extra after the gauge goes on E  john
