Getting ready to buy batteries to build my house bank for the bus ,,everybody seems to be using 6volts,,I checked out some 8v golf cart batteries this week ,,,3x8volt verses 4x6volt,,for a 24 volt bank,, has anybody used 8volts? seems like less wiring and less battery maint , pros and cons? .Anybody have experience with these?.thanks pete
I just talked with interstate battery today. I had information i needed for my batteries.
He said if you don't mind adding water, a regular lead acid 8d battery ( car battery but bigger ) will work just as well as agm.
These batteries are way cheaper 1/2 the price, last just as long, same amp hours,
There is maintenance, and you must follow directions for use.
He went on that he just don't understand why people spend so much on agm batteries
Now the bad I am not sure if he is correct.
Really would like to here the bad about regular lead acid batteries

I like AGM way better. No gassing, no watering, no corrosion, no acid buildup. You can even lay them on their sides if you want to fit them in tight places. If you want some, you can sometimes find them second hand in good condition. Sorry, I don't know anything about 8v batteries but assume that they will work. However, if one cell in one battery goes bad while on the road, you have lost the bank and may not find a quick replacement.
I've had normal wet batteries, and now have AGM's. I will NEVER go back to wet batteries. In the four years I've had my 2-8D's I've done nothing to them-not even have to clean the terminals. On my truck, I've backed myself into a corner to have to use AGM's, because like Sean, I'm mounting the batteries inside. Good Luck, TomC
