I found an RTS II in a scrape yard near Havelock, NC (Coastal NC). They said the engine was running when it came in. It has a 6v92 that is mechanical, no ECM. The scrape yard name is "Foss" and you should be able to get an telephone number from information. There are a number of Foss locations in Eastern NC, so you need the one in Havelock on Lake Road. I have no interest in Foss, but I may get the starter if no one gets the engine.

Most likely the starter on the RTS with 6V-92TA is a left hand starter if it is using the V730 transmission. Even though Allison did make a reverser gear V730R, I've never heard of one used with a 6V-92TA since they were easily reversed. The reverser gear was used with 4 stroke engines like the Cummins ISC, ISL and ISM (L10, M11 too). I wouldn't waste my time on trying to pull the starter.
Personally-starters just don't go out that often. In my entire 21 year trucking career, I think a had two on my first, and only on my second starter on my current truck. I wouldn't sacrifice the space nor the extra weight of carrying around an extra starter. Good Luck, TomC
Songman's RTS had a right hand 6v92 I saw those before his fwiw
good luck
Art, if you happen to go back, would you please check for a V730 (3 speed, Neutral, Reverse) manual shift tower? I need one for the V730 we're putting in the 4107 -- I'd rather go manual than an electric Stone-Bennett.
Thanks.
Arthur
Songman's RTS did have a right 6V-92TA but also had a ZF transmission. Good Luck, TomC
yea I knew Dale had a ZF so what is the point the RTS can have the V730R so do other bus manufactures I have parts books that show other manufactures did the same ZF or V730R guess it was done that way because when a order came for different engines like the LNG engines the transmission stayed the same
good luck
Runcutter, check for PM
