I've been contacted by a guy in Joplin who's bus sustained some damage from the tornado. He is wanting me to make an offer on his coach. Insurance has paid him off. I know he spent 9500 bucks (recepts to prove it) on the 8/71. It is a 4 speed trans. it was a road worthy coach before the storm.
I have plenty of property to park/store it.
I thought it would make a great donor rig for my 4104 but it could also be a bunch of work for a bit more power.
Windshield busted out, side glass busted out, couple bay doors hang'n, two large dents on passenger side roof.
Great rubber, Onan Diesel genset, good motor, good trans, trace inverter, air assist clutch, misc small stuff

The big advantage to the 4106 transmission is that the angled gears are before the transmission-making the maximum torque through those gears only what the engine puts out. On the other hand, the 4104 transmission has the angled gears at the output shaft-hence taking the torque of the engine and transmission.
You could get the same amount of power out the 6-71N as the 8V-71N by turbocharging and air to air intercooling the 6-71. But, as previously stated, you run the risk of blowing the transmission with the extra torque.
When you change out the 6-71 to 8V-71 you also have to change the rear axle since the running angle of the driveshaft is different between the two. If you have a doner bus-might be a good way to go. Then you could turbocharge the 8V-71 and really have a hot rod! Good Luck, TomC
I'm on the fence. I really don't wanna have to fab a valve cover hump in my engine door ( it is original and nice paint) to shoehorn in the 8v71, plus I'll have to cut a bigger hold in the bulkhead and swap out third member. I'm think'n a set of n65 injectors will do me just fine.
Guess I'll either buy it cheap and store in on the hill or let the salvage pool have it.
