I know this gets posted once in a while, so I'll post mine. I had to put down my dog today after having her nearly 15 years in our family. I know it sounds trite and trivial, but I'm really stinging right now from her absence. She loved riding in the coach with my wife and me. When we would begin loading the coach for a trip she would park right by the door in anticipation until ready to leave. She would lay on the couch with her head on my shoulder while I drove down the road. I knew this day would come soon, but I really didn't realize how difficult it would be.

You have my heartfelt sympathies. Nothing trite or trivial about it. For many of us pets become a beloved part of the family.
I wish you and your family the best. We have had a few of our beloved pets leave us as well and found that in due time, replacement is always the best medicine.

I certainly can empathize and you have my prayers. My cat died one year ago July 3rd and I still think about him. H ewas in decline for the last month of his life we it was expected but so sad just the same. I have another cat but I still love and miss Spanky and always will have a place in my heart for him. Just remember the good fun times you had with her and that will help.
We've been through that a couple of times David. So bad that we decided to never have another pet. I can sure sympathize with you. Our last pug was put down in 96. I still wake up sometimes at night and my first thought is "Where's Pudge"? He snored terribly
Losing a pet is never trite. Most are members of the family ready with love whenever needed.
I believe in the passages from the rainbow bridge saying they are there waiting for you on the other side.

Sorry to hear of your loss. We put our pug down not long ago. now he is in the cabnet by the front door. I was talking to my dad and he just bought one of those electric fences to keep his little dogs in when they go camping. I told him he loves those dogs more than he loved me and my sister. He paid $300 to keep the dogs around. When we were 17yrs he He started charging us so we would leave. I just don't get it.
David, Nothing trivial when you loose a pet. I have had that experience in the past and it doesn't get better. Our Silky Terrier is 16 years old and know that day is coming one day.
Pets give so much pleasure, it's only fitting we will feel a deep loss.
David I know of this stinging you are going through. We are currently enjoying some family time at the lake with Boo and have given her that hug, she say's there are plenty of pups in need of a good family when you are ready ;) As for me and Cheryl, what do we know, Boo picked us out :o ;D ;D

Yes, it hurts bad. I had a Lab mix we had to put down a few years back. He was 14. I took our daughter with, who was around 9 then IIRC. Oh how she sobbed. BUt I asked her if the time we had with him was worth the pain of saying goodbye, and she said yes.
Ive told myself a few times that when this one goes, or that one goes, ill not have another Dog. But you cant say things like that and then walk through a dog pound.
I feel for you David I lost Gidget last year she was a small Pom and always laid on my lap traveling shame a dog has such a short life and then you have the nasty parrots that out live you

Sorry to hear of the loss, but as sad as it is all of us have a time to go and unfortunately our pets don't last as long as we do usually.
I know I'll have a hard time when something happens to Kross or Rhodes!

More and more shelters are becoming no kill shelters. Our county shelter here has a few dogs that have been living there nearly 10 years in outdoor kennels. Thankfully, people volunteer to walk them, run them, bathe them, play with them, take them home for a weekend, and occasionaly there are idiots like us who will adopt one. Or three.
As much as it hurts to say goodbye to your doggy buddy, and ive buried a few myself now and it doesnt get easier, there are other dogs out there that could really use a warm leg to drool on and a gentle hand on their head.
Im so sorry to hear of your loss.... It's sad but dogs dont have near the life expetency as we do. All we can do is take care of them and love them as they (and we) pass thru this world. When I had to put my Winnie down, I took time to heal my heart and then rescued another from a kill shelter. Good luck in whatever you do and (((hugs))) to you and your family
We are sorry to hear of your loss. We just had to put Bayer down this year also. He loved going in the bus, no mater where it went. We're leaving on our first trip without him in 18 years, and it's difficult. His memories are every where. We have a small container for his ashes that will travel with us this year...Cable

I am sorry to hear that. I know exactly how it feels. Six months ago we had to do the same. We had the sweetest Golden Retriever. She was 13, when she started to get bad seizures. I still miss her. She was a great family dog.
It is like losing a family member. Even though they are dogs, they are still loved, VERY much.

Ive felt greater loss, and shed more tears over some dogs, than I have over some Family members. I can still get choked up thinking about one dog in particular, and hes been gone since 1991. I still cant read Rainbow Bridge without getting emotional, so I avoid it.

One of the hardest things I've ever had to do was put my dog down. That was in 2003. I still miss her. My website and board name are a tribute to her. Gumpydog was one of the many pet names we had for her. She was our first child.
You don't get over it, but it gets easier with time.

It's hard letting go of a friend that loves you with no conditions. It's hard to do but ending their suffering is one way we can repay them for all they have given us. I've had to do it 3 times now and it never gets any easier.
Dogs are family and I hate to hear of anyone loosing a family member. Sorry about your loss.
I got my dog at a very hard time in my life and he helped me thru it. No matter what is going on it seams like a dog will be there for you when you need them. They are trully the best friend that anyone can have.
My dog is now 13 and I know that his time with me is running out. Everytime that I leave without him I worry that he wont be able to go on a bus ride with me the next time.
