Title: Prevost Temperature control
Post by: eventer1 on June 02, 2011, 11:06:52 PM
I am missing the potentiometer to control the temperature. I think its part # 870963. $470 seems a little excessive from prevost. Doea anyone know where I may source a used one or an alternative?

How have you concluded this is what you need?

What year bus?

Is it for a dash loop or for the coach side on a bus with OTR A/C?

What is going on is it max cold or it does not get cold enough?

Joe,
It's missing. PO removed it, so all I have is a hole in the dash where it should be....

Its the driver control for the front hvac. Possibly happened when someone helped themselves to the radio.
Thanks

On my 79 conversion, the potentiometer is a Danfoss unit.  Not sure if that helps or not.

The potentiometer to control the temperature in my 1990 XL went bad and I was not willing to spend the money to replace it.

Instead I used a switch to activate the existing electric valve in the coolant line, which is in my spare tire compartment. I can only have the heat full-on or full-off. I control the temperature with the fan speed. I put the switch next to my dash air conditioner switch. I labeled the heat switch "Heat Bypass".

When I'm cold I open the valve, when I need air conditioning I close the valve and switch on the dash air. And when I am comfortable I leave the air off and the heat valve closet.

Works for me,
John

Before you try to put another part from another year call Prevo parts elgin and give them your Vin and the year the replacement part is coming out of . They will tell you if the part is the same part#.

Lots of these components are very YEARLY specific they change things constantly.

There are all kinds of over complicated expensive control circuts that can be redone simpler and for way less doe. That is one of those decisions that when you make that leap there is no going back. I'm not going there. That depends to a great degree to what you have to start with.

I think many new owners me included tear stuff out early on that later you learn that was dumb. If you have an old charter and a bunch of the original stuff is broken down if your gonna remove components hang on to everything till you are darn sure you will not regret discarding it.

Thanks everyone. I will call down to the K&R next week. In te meantime I am going to try the switch solution John has suggested. At leat that way I can confirm the valve is working correctly, in case I need to order that as well.
Thanks for all the help.
