I'm going to go look at a 1976 MCI MC8. Can any one tell me the history? Unit # is 1327
Or do you need more info
Thanks Kevin
Bump
need more info. All of the unit numbers that are listed are 5 digits. Google MCI Delivery List and you can search for it.

I will see the bus next week. All the the Vin # that I have been able to find for MC8 are 5 digits but checked at dmv and that's the number it is registered under. So not sure what to think. Thought some one here had an answer for that. As for the other replies Bump? Does that mean you don't like my Question or you want me bumped off the form?
kevin
The Bump is to "bump" it back to the top of the list

the unit number would be a 5 digit number, the serial number would be a 6 digit number starting with the letter "S". when serial numbers rolled past "9999" MCI added the "S" to the front, making it a 6 digit number. there are no 5 digit vin numbers among the 8's. Just a few of the very first 8's had 4 digit vin's, the rest were 6 digit.
My apology to Tom y for being so rude when you where just trying to help. I'm not up to date on all the language. will look for a plate with the vin and unit # when I go see the bus.
Again thanks for all your help and putting up with and old man that understands motors bether than people

Join the crowd!!! We all are exactly the same!! I tried here http://www.angelfire.com/ca/TORONTO/builders/mci8.html (http://www.angelfire.com/ca/TORONTO/builders/mci8.html)
OK FWIW there were MCI's that only had a 4 digit VIN! (as Frank, he can tell ya all about the 4 digit VIN that doesn't exist that his bus has! ;) )
Kevin,
CK the VIN plate about the driver seat. Also the # is stamped in the back of the bus in the radiator compartment. IIRC it's on the back wall under the surge tank.
Also look behind the front bumper beside the spare tire opening upper right hand corner when looking at it.
Good luck and keep us posted!
;D BK ;D
The 5 series all have 4 digit vins, same with the 6. The 7 series mostly had 4 digits but towards the end added more. A very few of the first 8's had 4 digit vins but most are longer. The gal at the DMV in Az. that did the out of state inspection on my 5A had never seen a 4 digit vin before. ;D
i think the issue was not wether or not there was a 4 digit vin, but was there a 4 digit unit number. The op listed a 4 digit unit number. All the 8's had 5 digit unit numbers, and a few 4 digit vins, with most of them being 6 digit vins. there were many many 4 digit vins prior to the 8's. you would have to go back to the 5's or prior to find 4 digit unit numbers however.

I believe if you check with "Frank" aka Slowrider you will find that his "8" also had a 4 digit UNIT # as well as the VIN! (I could be wrong, my memory ain't as long as it used to be!)
;D BK ;D
After taking a closer look i see i was wrong and not all of the 5's had a 4 digit vin. Some of the early ones had a 3 digit vin. ;D
I have a 76 TMC 8 with a 4 digit vin and a T 5 digit unit number
Our '73 MC-6 has a 5 digit unit number and a 5 digit serial number preceded by the letter S. Jack
Our 8 had a 17 digit serial number guess it was done by the converter I could never find any history on ours
All good stuff. I will get to go see it sat the 28. Will take pic's. If nothing else I need the tire kicking experience. Looks good in the add but don't they all LoL.

OK set a time to meet the man who owns the 76 MC8 on Fri. night. So far so good. Sat. about 30min. before my wife and I are going to leave for the 2 hour drive the owner calls and says that the bus is now in a different town and the add on the web site has the price wrong. That he wants more then 5500 for the bus. OK red flag right, so when ask how much he was asking could not get a straight answer. Red flag again, Told him I would still like to see the bus. I don't get many chances to see buses here in Idaho. This is the only one I know of in the state that is for sale. He give me the direction to the bus. We drive out there and when we get there he is siting in the drivers seat with no other cars around. OK so he drove the bus to the truck stop so we could check it out cool. No he is living in the bus. Before we can pull up and say Hi the man jumps out and starts yelling at us to get the he@# out of there. When I told him I was the one he talked to on the phone. He said I don't give a f*#@ who you are this is my place and we better leave. So we left. First time to check out a bus for sale not so good. It can only get better. LOL I well just have to Waite for the busnusa rally in June to check some out. Hope to meet some of you there.
Kevin
Did anyone warn you that busnuts are strange folks!!? That was a strange encounter for sure.
Kevin, BC Busnuts is having a rally at Klinks Resort near Cheney Wa. Sept. 9-12 if you want to check out more buses. ;D
i have a tmc Model 8 that has a 4 digit serial # which i was told they are basically the same as a mci only they sere built in roswell , nm.
Artglass The bus is a TMC with a 6v-92T. From what I saw from the outside it has potential. I thank I will let it sit for awhile. Even at 5000 there are so many out there that are converted going for 15000. Doing all the conversion work myself would cost more. Might not be done right but it would be done my way and I would know the bus better. I need to take my time read and learn. This is a great place for that.
Thanks kevin
