Title: RV Camping in Pittsburgh
Post by: ake1994 on May 18, 2011, 12:11:04 PM
After numerous searches of the web, I can't find a campground anywhere close to Pittsburgh. I have found many campgrounds located an hour or so outside Pittsburgh. But wanted to get as close as possible to reduce travel from the bus to the city. Going up from Virginia so anything on the south side would be good. Anyone know a good place close to the City?

  Thanks in advance.

I would suggest The Meadows Casino and Racetrack just south of Pittsburgh in Washington Pa.  There are no hookups but it is free and there is good security 24/7 around the place.  We use our generator when we are there.  Good luck.

I am from Pittsburgh.  I don't know of any.  The Elks and Eagles lodges have RV parking and sometimes hook-ups out west here but I have never seen any RVs in the lots in Pa.  Pays to be an Elk and an Eagle.

Thanks Guys for the responses. Looks like we will probably be 30-45 minutes outside the city.

Again thanks,

It has been about 10 years since I landed the bus in the Pittsburgh area.  Best I could find at that time was down in Washington, PA.  I can't remember if we stayed at Whispering Pines, or the KOA. Not a very memorable experience, good or bad.

With my son currently attending University of Pittsburgh, I keep thinking about taking our bus on one of our trips.  But then we get out there and I realize the parking and hills are not the most bus friendly. So far I've been reluctant to venture into Pittsburgh proper in the bus.

That is very intelligent of you.  Don't dare.

Thanks WEC4104 & John,

We were looking at a campground on the WEB that was in Whashington. Both of those names you mentioned came up in our searches. Looks like that's the best we can do. We will use the toad to get in and out of the city. Our destination is downtown anyway. Not getting a comfortable feeling about taking the bus into the city proper. Not comfortable leaving the bus all day either, but believe it will be OK in a campground. Will only be there for two days so should work out well.

Thanks again,

Breck
