WVO burners,
There are a bunch of folks out there called "Blenders". They don't heat their oil. To get the viscosity down to acceptable levels they add Regular Unleaded Gas (RUG) to their WVO. 10% in summer and @20% in winter. To much and you loose power and the engine overheats a touch. Too little and the engine runs rough when cold and smokes all the time. But the recovery is simple...add what you need to to correct the problem.
The use of this info is you need no Dino D. Your D tank is filled with 10% RUG for a large discount.
You can also blend in WVO to your D in the D tank and get some savings there. 50% is supposed to be the correct ratio for summer but 50% is $2/gal fuel.
This is going on but you would need to verify the "facts".
Is anybody here into this?
John
Ive heard of this..... and a few other blends or straights..... Personally, Im scared. I do biodiesel and am interested in doing wvo, but for the other more exotic blends or straights I just want to hear from more folk with engines like mine who are experimenting..
To answer your question, no I am not a blender. I am not apposed to someone else doing it but not in my engines. Glycerin is what has to be dealt with. Either deal with it with chemicals or heat. I don't believe the bang in unleaded gasoline will get a complete burn on all of the glycerin. Chemicals (bio d) takes the glycerin out prior to engine entry. WVO heats the oil to get a better spray pattern from the injector and ups the bang factor in the cylinder. At 180 the bang is enough to send all the glycerin to vapor and out the tailpipe.
I am also a firm believer the ones who blend, try it first and see no damage. It is not an instantanous engine death. It is a slow creeping death. The blenders I know all buy cheap used Mercedes and run them into the ground. When they break they sell the junk parts and buy another. They don't even investigate the problem if it is internal engine. Exterior and cheap they will fix it. They will not crack an engine open.
Oh and with the surge tank system I am probably running around 10 percent diesel through with the veg oil. When you purge from the motor back to the surge tank you really don't have a good way to measure how much diesel is making it into the surge tank. I just watched my fuel guage on the surge tank and when it went up 1/8 of a tank I quit purging. It does not tanke long that is for sure.
The nice thing about what your doing Wal is now your veg oil is a fuel "additive" wink wink ;D ;) ;)
:D ;D Homemade additive no doubt.

Sounds like a prudent and well thought out posture.
I particularly like WAL's approach....as I understand it. He is using BioD and is also equipped to use WVO and has a full up four season system of heaters and filters and such. It would seem that the BioD could be used to start and shut down, like D, when ambient temps permit. Or blend the BioD with Dino for colder temps. Always ready for Dino should the trip be long. That is the ultimate system for me. being able to fit some WMO in there would send me over the edge and bliss me out. ;D
Thanks for your answer,
John
It is rather blissful to hit the toggle switches and ride on down the road.

I will join you in this Nirvana in the near future, God willing and if the creek don't rise.
