Title: SEBN tip on fuel savings
Post by: Mike in GA on May 04, 2011, 08:25:02 AM
One of the regular features of Southeast Bus Nut rallies is an informal Tech Talk session led by fulltimer and SEBN past president Howard Best. Folks sit around the circle for 1-2 hours sharing ideas, catastrophies, mechanical and driving tips, etc.
At Saturday's session, another past president, Andy Metro, shared a very practical idea during these times of $4. plus fuel prices - a Visa card offered by the Pentagon Federal Employees Credit Union. You don't have to be a federal employee to join, but you do have to join a veteran's support club for a small contribution. You can open an account over the internet for $20 or so, then request the special Visa card.
Anyway, if you pay with their Visa at the pump they deduct 5% off all gas and diesel purchases on your next statement. That's a saving of over 20 cents a gallon depending on local prices. In fact they deduct another 1% on all other purchases too. Considering that I've been known to drive miles out of my way to save 3-5 cents a gallon on fuel, this one is a no-brainer. Any fuel, any station, as long as you pay at the pump.
They offer several cards, but the one you want to look at is the Visa Platinum Cashback Rewards Card. Check out their web site:

Several SEBN members have gone this route and swear by it. Anything we can do to make Busin' as affordable as possible...  HTH.
