Thinking of a floorplan that utilizes a mid entry door, such as those on a Newell. Any ideas on this? Pros- Cons? I've mainly been thinking of a split floorplan, with a rear bedroom, living in the middle, and kids bunks in the front. This would be separated with a wall and pocket door to the cotpit. That way I could drive in peace, LOL!
I really like mid-entry door, but most think its a waste of space.
Easier to do on your bus than most. go for it! Opposite slide maybe? Grand entrance ! Could this be the Airplane guy coming out in you? Happy bussing Bob
Maybe airplane guy, who knows. I have to give credit where credit is due though, it was my wife's idea. I just kinda like the private drivers compartment. I was thinking a salon slide, two bed slides, one for bunks, and one for master. And maybe if I am ambitious a opposing dresser slide in master. So possibly a four slide setup. Don't know if i want to lose the existing entrance door or not. I'm thinking probably lose it.
If you turn the existing stepwell into a compartment to make up for what you loose in another bay by moving it you have given up nothing in terms of storage space. I have seen this on a motorhome. They put a great big bench seat shotgun, without the door there it makes that possible too. This particular double seat was like in a train where the seatback reverses turning the shotgun seat into the front bench but now facing rearward for the dinette that was directly behind it. That particular XL also had a front kitchen never saw that before. Something about the fridge directly behind the driver that seemed good to me LOL ;D
I have seen the middoor a few times and done both ways driver accessability and not.
There was a Liberty done for Randy Travis that had a mid entry and the cockpit was completely walled off. Had a great floorplan and privacy was great but I do not think I would care for that on my motorhome.
I love the mid door, one of the things Newel has over others. That front door makes for a crummy traffic flow for sure.
Look at some of the entrances on the Newels and copy one of theirs. It ain't gonna happen with 4 slides thou.
Decisions decisions......
Thanks Joe. I like the idea of another bay at the front. Also the fridge behind drivers seat,...but maybe a Kegerator!LOL
Toyota Motorsports has a h-45 Marathon with a mid door a 2007 model is for sale right now and Mark at American Carriage built 2 XLL with mid doors before he went out of business one of his mid door coaches is in Phoenix for sale.
We have several members in the Eagles that have mid doors the trick is getting the stairs right without giving up space
good luck
