I got the plug in and tested it, photos are here http://s495.photobucket.com/albums/rr315/happycamperbrat/Little%20GTO/home%20hookups/ (http://s495.photobucket.com/albums/rr315/happycamperbrat/Little%20GTO/home%20hookups/) with captions about the job. But now Im back onto the RV plug and it is only 3 wire sooooooo do I need a single pole breaker now or if not, what the heck do I do with the other hot wire off the double pole breaker?
You need a single pole breaker. 30amp would be standard with #10 wire for connection.
Thank you Storm! I just had a light bulb go off in my head about all of this. Yes, I do have to use a single pole to run 3 wired anything BECAUSE otherwise if I split the double pole to run different things then I would again run into the same problem as i did originally with drawing 30 amps out of an instument (like the 120 outlet) and having it catch fire........ right?! It's what everyone was trying to tell me!
Teresa,
Now you have me confused. All the installation photos are of a 14-30R, which is a 4-wire circuit requiring a double-pole breaker. The last photo, of a retail box, shows a TT-30R, which is a 3-wire outlet.
Are you going to replace the 14-30R with the TT-30R? I thought you were just going to use an adapter from the 14-30 to a TT-30?
If you are going to replace the 14-30 with the TT-30, ideally you would change to a single-pole, 30-amp breaker. The second (red) hot wire would be removed. However, it is not unsafe to continue to use the double-pole breaker in place now. Just leave the second pole unconnected.

Sorry Sean. I am leaving the 50amp as is. Just today I finished the installation of the 4 wire 30amp welder outlet. But Im still going to install a 3 wire 30amp RV plug, which is the last photo. I decided not to use the adapter after all, and am just going with a rv dedicated 30amp outlet.

Ah. OK, then, yes, you want to use a 30-amp single pole breaker and #10 THHN or THWN wire.
