Well my second part of my journey to SEBN has not been so good last week no problems but today my fuel gauge that I thought was malfunctioning since I just got fuel Checked the oil everything great heading up to Wisconsin for my second stop of the journey and look down at fuel gauge and showing 1/4 tank then started smelling diesel fuel so I pulled over and hole in the fuel line must of pumped the $250 of fuel I just put in right back out. A big thanks to Bob in Rockford (fellow busnut) for taking me to get parts. I am now fixed up with a new $40 fuel line and minus $200 of fuel. The journey continues I am heading to elkart Indiana on Sunday from Wisconsin.
Better fuel than oil
The oil would have taken the motor with it
Good luck and travel safe on the rest of the trip

Wow, thank goodness your fuel gauge proved to be working and you caught it! You say "pumped out" - was the leak after the pump? Curious as to any noticeable effect on the engine performance. Thinking return line - no way to notice, pressure pump in - maybe reduced pressure at the injectors, and fuel line from tank to pump - I would have expected the engine to suck air and lose prime.
Glad you got it sorted!
Brian
No it was the feed line from secondary filter to the head. I would have thought the same that it would have lost prime but nope it run fine at 70 mph no hesitation or miss. I do know one thing my fuel pump works great.
That is after the pump so it would not lose prime. That is on the pressure side, so since the pump output is a lot more than the engine actually needs to allow for cooling fuel flow and return to the tank, the effect was slightly less pressure, and slightly less flow back to the tank. If it had got to the point of a lot less pressure and not enough fuel to run the engine, you would have noticed that!
Brian
Were you pulling anything at the time? Hope not.
Didi you notice frequent spinouts in your mirror? Just kidding.
I had a fuel filter gasket blow on a Pete I was driving and did not notice it at first, but then, it turned a 90 degree day on a dry road into what seemed like an ice skating rink. When I pulled over and stopped the drives were all wet with fuel. I was real lucky that day. On the highway it may ruin a few clean winshields but around town puddles of deisel at the stop lights and stop signs is not real prefferable.
People frequently hustling by you on a beautiful sunny day with the wipers on is often a bad sign too.
Yes I was pulling a 14 foot trailer that is now diesel covered. Along with the whole inside of my engine compartment and back of bus.
good clean engine compartment now!
It would be very clean if I could find a truckwash to spray it off.
handy to have a good gas powered pressure washer and some soap to put in the line.... after being dieseled, it would be very clean.
Things not going my way now I think the fuel pump on my 21kw Genny went out sounded like it ran out of fuel and won't restart went to napa and they will have one by 7 pm .. When it rain it pours.
I have a used one you are welcome to and you are coming right thru here.
You need a 12 volt electric correct?
I have one and am close enought toI 94 to bring it to you let me know.
Cory... Hopefully the rest of your journey will be trouble free.. I just bought an electric fuel pump from Napa for the Kabota diesel on my mower.. I too wasn't sure if it was the pump or not since it also has the Automatic shutdown features for Oil Pressure and Water Temperature that will cut the power to the fuel pump. I knew it either had to be a bad sensor or a bad pump. The way I tested mine was I just pulled it and connected the pump wires directly to the battery. Wasn't bad as I thought..$48.00 and 15 minutes of labor.

Joe thanks for the offer I already got a new one. I will put it on tomorrow and hope it takes care of the problem.
OK, if you cant get it started or there is anything else you may need help with let me know your comming right by here.
Well the new fuel pump did not fix the problem. I am going to change the fuel filter. I just changed it around 100 hours of running ago. The Genny is a 21kw Yanmar diesel. It will fire with starting fluid so it has to be a fuel problem. Any one familiar with Yanmar.
Cory... So the fuel pump is pumping fuel or not??? If it is pumping and won't run then you probably have a clogged filter as you mentioned.. But if the new pump is not pumping then you might have a faulty sensor or wire that is activating the "Shut Down" feature. I know with my Kabota Diesel, if either of the sensors get activated then it shuts power to the pump and it will not work. One way to check it is take a volt meter and check voltage at the fuel pump with the switch on... You should have 12v or a little higher. If no voltage then you may have a faulty wire or shut down sensor that cuts the power to the pump. Also, you may have air in the fuel line if you didn't bleed the line after swaping the fuel pumps. You can open up the bleed valve to let the air escape but that is only if the new pump is working..
Hope that helps..
Jimmy
Check you power to the shutdown solenoid and the solenoid it is on the back of injection pump on most Yanmar's it opens on a DC voltage and then stays open running on AC power, then there is a inline filter at the pump where the supply enters unless it has been removed
good luck
Well I just changed the fuel filter pushed the prime button and bang fired right up all is good. I have power.
I wish I could get out of here a day early. Winter storm warning ...come on its the end of April. Could get a inch of snow with wind and rain. I hope the weather is great at SEBN.
Well made it to stop number 3 Elkhart Indiana to pick up my new custom furniture with out problems. I couldnt find a truck wash so I had to wash it by hand here at the campground. Diesel fuel is not easy to get off. But all is good.
I just made it to Columbus Ohio here until Sunday then heading to SEBN rally. I have a trailer and bays full of Mci parts for sale.
