we have a 1993 prevost h341 that has a 8v92 the temp guages in the dash reads 20 degress hotter than the manual guage in the engine compartment all guages and sensers are new.any help thanks.
You adjust the electric gauge by adding or removing resistance coils that is the wire wrapped around a pencil adding loops will drop the reading, take a IR thermo gun and check the rear gauge they get off also.
Get the engine up to temp and cut it off if the dash gauge drops then it is to much voltage add the loops
good luck
the electric guage is a 24volt and has three wires on it which wire is it.thanks for your help.
How many wires or on the sensor at the engine ? I take it your is a 8v92 DDEC with 3 wires on gauge
good luck
Welcome aboard! please post your location general you don't know help might be only a couple miles away. My rear mechanical gauge is about 10 degree differant than front neither is a problem for me because I have verified the rear mechanical. Have more problem keeping it warm even in 90 degree weather than overheating. I have a XL Ace on the board has a H and recently had to replace radiator.Might ck with him on symptom. Bob
it has a senser on the left head that has a 2 wire plug and 1 on the right head that is 1 wire nut along with the mechanical guage we checked it with a new snap on temp gun so the temp is ok our dash guage reads 195 and the engine reads 170 all guages and senser are new from prevost.thanks mark.
The sender on the right head is the temperature gauge did you change that one ? that one is not a sensor but a sending unit, but something is wrong with the picture 170 is way to cold for 8v92 DDEC they had 190 or 195 degree thermostats most were 195 fwiw
good luck
Had all kinds of problems with temp gauges on a 8v92DDEC until I got all the grounding squared away in the dash instrument cluster. The PO had all kinds of tickets where he had complaints of engine and transmission temp gauge problems. The normal ticket called out that a sensor was replaced. Seemed to never cure the problem. The dash now reads the same as the engine compartment which is the same as the Kent-Moore (think early Prolink) reader.
My $.02 worth and good luck

195 is about right for 8v92. Running those temps up to about 205-210 is ok since these motors dont start making hp until then abd hreat is a good sign of hp. I changed my radiator as stated and it runs 195 and upwards to 205 depending on trailer being pulled or heat of the day or both. Mister helps sometimes but slowly.
Are the grounds in the dash or are they running out to fuse panel. I really don't think the bus is . running hot but when the gauge reaches over 210 the check engine comes on and the gauge in the engine compartment says 170
what's you oil temp running?
My H has a series 60 so I can be of no help, But I didnt know prevost made a H3 41, in 1993 thought only started in 95?
Hey Ace, if you think it's OK to run at 205-210 you must have a fat wallet. Be prepared for a cracked head someday.
The H-41 can be a 1993 model I am thinking that was the 1st year for the H-41 and the H-45 but have been wrong before isn't Jim's H-41 a 1994 model
good luck
Not to start a war but obviously you not too knowledgeable on 8v92's and heat. Trust mee when I say this. I have owned my bus for a few years and I usually travel with a 2nd generation bus shop owner and when I tell him what my temps are usually 195 which is scary to me, he tells me ti gouge on it, and only be worried at 215 or hotter. Remember, mine is ddec and it has a shut down so not att all worried about a cracked head. If that was going to happen, it would have been done long begore now, now that I have learned my limits.
I think I would go back and rephrase that Ace about Mark being knowledgeable lol
good luck
Here we go again! Someone ask an opinion and someone gives first hand experience and they are still wrong.
Frankly I dont care how knowledgeable he or anyone is. I am giving personal real time experienced information. I'm not out here making stuff up just to be heard. I can say that I have run my bus that hot, not every minute, every day, but it has happened and it never hurt it and I dont suspect it ever will. Again the guys I usually run with I trust 100% and have learned a lot from just being with them and hanging out at their shop.
Ace you are rolling the dice @ 210 or 215 on a 8v92 but you have always been lucky lol,but if you think the DDEC will save your a** better think again and as far as Mark that guy owned a fleet of the H series and MCI'S he is very knowledgeable about buses I would say more than anyone on this board JMO
good luck
Clifford, the ddec in the bus will shut down at 215. The hottest mine ever got was I think 212 coming back from SC in the heat on the hills with a bad radiator, not leaking, just very bad. Since replacing the radiator, it runs a constant 195-200+-.
Check this. Turn your markers on and off and watch the gauges. Often the gauges change readings when doing this.
Bad ground
Our 8-V 92TA runs 180........185 with the OTR A/C running.
That is if you trust the terribly calibrated gauges and often incorrect readings LOL
Welcome to the world of prevo ownership.
The dash air pressure gauges are often 5 to 10 lb off. Check them out for yourself.
Ever seen a prevo with electric air pressure gauges, they are out there and are completely worthless.
I rarely rely on the bus gauges. I usually check using the silverleaf compared to the pro-link.
Gauges are only as accurate as their sending units. I see a lot of people with digital dashes in race cars confuse precision with accuracy. Standing there looking at a burnt down engine saying the oil temp was only 220 and the poor thing is smoking and stinking like the fryer in a McDonalds... Dash was precisely indicating a totally wrong reading.
