Hi folks,

I'm posting for a new member, Wayne.   Wayne is working on his Prevost w/a pump replacement and he has a question for the group:

It was the conservation about vickers pump that brought me to write. I am working on a Prevost. The cavitation  in our case was caused by a worn out seal, which in turn caused the atf to leak into the engine oil. My problem is that this is not the belt driven type of pump. Rather, it is mounted on a housing behind the engine and driven by the camshaft. There is a puk shaped coupling with 4 slots in it. Two of the slots go over the bosses attached to the camshaft. The other two are on the pump. If anyone is familiar with this  setup, I can not see into the housing, the housing has a bowtie shaped openning so the pump will only enter withe bosses facing one way, the puk shaped coupling is loose and just resting on the cam bosses, and the machined collar of the pump meets the housing at the same time as the bosses on the pump meet the puk, so I can not tell if I am lined up properly when I try to put the pump in. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?

what year and engine? I have book I can check.

It is an 8V92 the year is 1993.

It won't fit till both are lined up the way I do it is have the drive from the engine on a straight vertical line and rotate the pump to a straight horizontal line and they slip in easy.
That is the standard set up on just about all DD engines unless you have a Eaton gear driven pump

 Thanks for the reply. The slots are vertical at this time, but the flange I have to go through is cocked at about 30 degrees, so I tried to turn the bosses by wrapping a fishing line around one and turning it after the collar passed through. So far, no luck. I am going to go at it today.

Bar the engine over to the same 30 degree angle it should go in I know there is not much room to rotate the pump on a Prevost or MCI makes it hard to align the 2

Clifford has it covered! it will just slip in when it is correct.  could bump engine with bar if close and can't turn pump enough to do it.  need any thing else just post.   Bob
