Title: 4104 level valve
Post by: gulfyankee on March 31, 2011, 06:48:07 PM
How do I check a level valve for proper operation? The right rear of my bus is not nearly as high as the rest, and the front left is pretty high. I can push on the bus and rock it some side to side, and see the suspension moving, so I think the is some air in the bags.

Scott,

The front left is high because the rear right is low since the rear valves control the front side to side level also.

You probably have a disconnected leveling valve linkage. The link connections are rubber with screws/bolts in the rubber. When the rubber fails the screws/bolts are loose and won't adjust the leveling valve arm properly. Sometimes you can reach under the bus and move the leveling arm by hand. Air up the system and push the arm up to raise the bus.

You could have a failed bag but my money is on the valve linkage. The valve arm doesn't move much to raise or lower the bus so it doesn't take much looseness to mess things up.

Please, if you get underneath the bus be sure to place wooden blocks between the suspension and the air beams. You don't have to get underneath to reach the linkage if you have long arms. You can even use a stick to push the arm up.

remember - there is a delay built into the valve - from 2-10 seconds IIRC

Good point, I forgot about that!!

I always make sure mine is lifted high enough to make getting caught impossible, the only sure way to do it.
