Title: Bedroom in bus is coming together
Post by: Dave Siegel on March 27, 2011, 07:32:26 AM
Well I finally got the actuators lined up and working in our queen size platform bed (why didn't I do this years ago?) I am in the process of changing the window treatments in the bedroom going from pull down shades to cellular blackout blinds, and now I have the floor to deal with.

I original had carpet in the bedroom with a padding. I took that up, thinking I wanted to go to hardwood or laminate flooring. Now Jan wants to go back to carpeting. And I am not sure what to argue for. Does anyone have any good reasons for any particular type of flooring?

This will be our last change and I want it to be perfect so any advice will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Just my opinion:

I am the anti-carpet guy, but I like it in the bedroom.

Helps keep it quiet, soft on feet, not much traffic so it stays cleans in the rear of coach.

Plus, it's easy to replace and such a small footprint around bed.

I am a Hardwood/Laminate kind of guy. No matter what you track in or spill, it is easy to clean. I don't have any carpet in my house, so it's only fitting that the bus does not either. I am sure you will make the right decision. The one that makes your wife happy. :)

Good Luck,
Mike

I like flooring, not carpet because of cleaning. But in the bedroom especially make sure you have throw rugs and you can put double sided tape on them so they stay in place until you want to move them.

I hate carpet since i think it bothers my breathing... I use laminate flooring and throw rugs with rubber backing i can wash...

Hi Dave,
I'm not a fan of carpet either but we ripped all the carpet out of our coach bedroom after a flood but we realized that it was very high quality carpet because it cleaned up really nicely.  With new underlay, it was cheaper to re-install and I like the warm texture on my way to the can for the 1,200 times I go every night.

I'm not so enamoured with the carpet up front. Hard to keep clean and I don't care for the look of it.  It's on my "to do list" but not near the top yet.

Jusy my $0.02 worth.

I have found that thick padding and carpet helps insulate and sound deaden in that area. That's the only place I use it. Bob

When you said carpet, first thing in my mind was "soft to walk on"; second thing was "flood" as in Brian's post (#6 above?).  The Management says that she wants throw rugs; aside from the fact that I know better than to disagree, I think that's a good idea.  Just throw them into the big washer at the laundromat, no matter how dirty or wet they get.

I just got done yanking the carpet out of the front of the bus and installed a wood laminate floor. Looks 100% better. In fact I also got rid of the ozite (?) on the side walls and replaced with wood. The laminate floors are so much easier to take care of than carpet or wood flooring and a lot easier to install. The wife wants the carpet gone in the bedroom also but we'll see. Like Bob stated, it does make a good sound deadener.

Previous owner of my 4103 loved carpet, I just spent a few days pulling the old blue shag carpet off the floors, the walls AND the ceiling :-\.

It was an early 1970's conversion, the amount of dust and dirt in the carpet was mind blowing.......No carpet will go back in, hardwood with throw rugs for me, oak frame and panel walls, floors and cabinets and I am thinking copper or pressed tin panels for the ceilings.

PO of my 4104 was the same way, except blue indoor/outdoor carpet instead of shag. All of it is coming out, have already picked out the laminate flooring going back in. Still might do carpet in the bedroom tho.
