Title: 24v Jake solenoids on a 12v bus
Post by: basil on March 23, 2011, 03:15:59 PM
Obscure question....I had non working jakes traced to Jake solenoids on my Eagle 8v92.

Mechanic had some used solenoids off a 24v military 8v92 takeout.

He thought they would probaly work, else no harm in trying since the engine was already all opened up.  He put them in.

They seem to be working fine now, I hear them pop if I open the window and feel the moderate reverse tug on grades.

Any reason I should be worried?  I can't imagine I would be damaging anything, but thought I'd ask the crowd.

Thanks

Basil, you need a condenser on each solenoid then they work better on a 12 volt Eagle or use those till they quit only problem you have is they are slow and don't open fully, tell your mom we said hi nice lady

good luck
