Title: NEED A DRIVER NEAR FAIRFAX VIRGINIA TO DRIVE MY ORION TO STORAGE
Post by: mokibrabrant on March 17, 2011, 11:44:46 PM
I'll keep it straight and rather formal;  for me a difficult task.  I recently purchased a 30ft 1998 Orion from the Transit Authority in Fairfax Virginia.........and I need it to be driven to a storage facility by the 23rd Of March:   So if there are any members in that Vicinity that could do this think.  Let me know.....be happy to compensate you:  And then deduct that compensation for the sheer delight of Driv'n my Orion.......kind of an old Company Store joke.  Thought that might fly in Virginia.  I have a few Irons in the Fire toward this End.  If push comes to shove.  I'll have to go and get it.   That said.
I can hear some of you asking, why would anyone buy an Orion?  And the answer is simple I'm just crazy that way:  My dad had simple prerequisites for happiness.   Adherence to the Constitution, a readily available gun, and doing some fishing.   Proving the apple doesn't fall far from the tree I am quite similar.......however, you can X out the fishing and insert Buses:  The Orion attracts me because it it extremely well maintained, it is a Commuter bus as opposed to a "transit"  So I won't be dropping any money into it because it requires a re-power.   For you guys who wonder how fast it will go, I'll give you her vital statistics.   Powered by a DD S-50 275 Horse.  Allison B-400 6 spd. Governed at 2300 RPM......axle ratio 4.56...........6th gear 0,65 and the tire diameter is 40.6........My numbers suggest a very comfortable 70 mph at about 1900 RPM.   My intentions with this, and for this, is to have a rolling living room entertainment center.
So there's my little introduction.   Oh I have a real Coach too.  I own a 90 Crown.  yeah, it's sweet.   But I think length in Buses is like, I don't know, the Richter Scale, at a certain length there's a certain exponential clumsiness:   I know it's just me:  But when I'm in suburban settings, where typically I spend more time, I like to be able to just kind of forget I'm really in a Bus..........you know, keep up with local traffic, Turn without having to go into the next county, maybe even get away with a sleepover in a residential neighborhood without a charlie Manson Alert.............So enough for now I'm out:  if you live in Virgina and want a joy ride give me a shout we'll work something out...mokibra

Since this is a real bus and not titled as an RV, the state of Virginia will require someone with a CDL to drive it.  I don't know if they will check when the bus is picked up but if you are stopped for any reason, well I hope the officer is in a good mood that day.....

Franks is correct. I would add that, to be strictly legal, the driver will need a CDL with a P(passenger) endorsement and a current DOT medical card.

If only I had known...I was up there yesterday picking up bus and boat parts!  And have the required CDL with passenger endorsement!
Now lets see...I would have charged you about a grand to drive it...you would in turn have charged me a couple of grand for the privelege of driving it...a damn good deal all around! ;D
