Title: Hinge Replacements for MC5B MCI
Post by: MCIGenes on March 17, 2011, 09:47:10 AM
I was wondering if anyone knew of a new style replacement hinge for the bay doors on an MC5B. I replaced the hinges about 2 years ago with the old rubber style and the one on my electrical bay just failed the other day. I believe the hinges I got at the time were new but old stock and they may have been dried out from age and that is why they only lasted a couple of years. At one time I heard somewhere that some company was making a replacement hinge to the rubber hinges only the new ones were made with Kevlar in them. I would think that this would stand up better than just rubber.
I would like to replace all my bay door hinges, but I really need to replace the electrical bay hinge before I can hit the road again. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Gene:  I saw some small hinges on a scenicruiser that worked very well however the looked rough. I checked on ebay and found stainless steel piano hinges I am going to try them on mine. check them out see what you think.

I have been in contact with Ed Gallant. He makes stainless steel hinges. His e-mail is
Edannbus@aol.com.  He was very helpful on applications and what I needed. I ordered  from him. A very helpful busnut.

I have thought about stainless steel hinges but I have not seen anyone that did them. I am not sure how you would fasten them in and how they would look. I would like to stay with the traditional look hinge, but with newer more durable materials. I will consider stainless if I can not find what I had in mind. Thanks for your reply. I would be interested in any photos or information about the installed stainless steel hinges.

Thanks Big John & Michael,
I sent Ed an email and I will wait for him to respond. Thanks for the info. I also contacted a guy that advertises in BCM and he directed me to Mohawk where I can get the standard rubber hinge to get the bus back on the road and then address the long term replacement later. I want to take my grandson fishing soon and I have lots of projects to complete before we can go. Thanks again.
