Leaving south TX, to head up hwy 83 , the wife wants to go to Palo Duro canyon, then we are going to Clovis NM ,hang out with a guy i taught to build saddles, any bus nuts or fishing holes we need to check out.
Matt
You might want to consider Canadian, Texas while your up there. You can park your bus at Lake Marvin east of town. It is an old federal park that nobody goes to anymore. The town is a little jewel to visit. Very clean, brick streets and lots of little shops your wife would love to go see. Don't eat at the steak house! You can fill your bus up for the price of a steak in there. It is a neat place in the world.
By the way. What part of south Texas are y'all from? I am 50 miles west of Houston south of Sealy. I might be headed to Freer, Texas at the end of April for the rattler round up.
WAL 1809,Leaving Carrizo Spings in the next few hours, the Canadian TX deal sounds good, looks like a easy first day trip.
Thanks Matt

Well happy travels to you both. When you go to lake Marvin you have to circle the lake over the dam to the right side of the lake. Up that road a short piece you will find the camp gorunds with 30 amp. It is an honor system to camp there. There is a steel pipe where you fill out the paper envelope and drop your money in the slot. I have been going up there hunting for years now and yet to see more then 1 or 2 campers in the rv section.
I heard there are fish in the lake but it is always iced over when I go up there. When you get stopped somewhere check out the history on the Canadian river valley. Some of the oldest history known about Texas stems from the Canadian river valley. I could really get used to living in a place like Canadian.

Can't put a price on solitude ... the magical place we are all seeking ... but somehow never seem to find eh?
BCO
I tell you for a duck hunter solitude is what I seek. Down here the duck hunters are everywhere during season. My brother and I drive up there every year for a week long duck hunting trip. Not a lot of ducks but some days a lot and other days not so many. It was cold enough last year to make pee-cicles if you know what I mean. We set up some Canada goose deoys on a sand bar and duck decoys in a pool on the river. It was so cold I had to carry my labrador across the river because we were there too early to get him wet and make him sit in the cold. The little watere he got on him turned to ice in seconds.
The good thing about that is every now and again you meet up with a few quail hunters who are just as surprised to see us as we them. They are always friendly and lend good conversation. Reminds me of the old days.
Every now and again I have an old injury that creeps up on me, my back. This year it got me on the last 2 days of the trip and put me in a bind. Even my meds would not cut the pain. I just had to lay down on the ground on my side and just watch my brother shoot. It is still good to be there though.

It was cold enough last year...
It was so cold, a man snuggled up to his ex-mother-in-law.
It was so cold, a politician stuck his hands in his OWN pockets.
The wind blew so hard, a hen laid the same egg twice.
;) :D ;DSorry. Couldn't resist.
I kind of like that. Snuggling with the mother in law is a possibility. A hen laying an egg twice, I can see that. A politician putting his hands in his own pocket. No way in a milliion years will I ever believe that.

Little polar bear went up to his mama and asked, "Am I a polar bear?"
And the mama polar bear replied, "Why yes, yes you are."
The little guy looked at her and said, "Really? Are you sure?"
Mama said to him, "Go out on the ice floe and ask your father."
So he walks out for a long ways onto the ice and finds his Daddy, "Dad am I a polar bear" he asks.
The father bear says, "Yes son, you are a polar bear."
And the little guy asks his Dad again, "Are you sure Dad, are you really sure?"
And the father bear says to the little guy, "Listen. I am a polar bear. Your mama is a polar bear. Our parents were polar bears, we come from a long proud line of polar bears. Why are you asking me this question?"
And the little bear looked at his Daddy and said .... "Cause I am cold."

It is north of Shamrock. It is in the uppermost right hand corner of the panhandle of Texas. Luvrbus you aint kidding. I am a coastal boy and don't experience that temp very often. Now I can take the cold but when you step in the river at 0500 hours and you discover there is a leak, oh Lord. I can't even dare to tell my brother I am cold I got to go to the truck, uh uh no way. I just had to stick it out. It is OK though I think I got feeling back in my right leg yesterday. ;D
Luvrbus I saw a very well built heavy duty double trailer(boat up top and car underneath) in that area. I tracked down the owner via the secretary at the police department. I have yet to contact the owner as he never answers the telephone. I was wondering if you have had any experience with these trailers.
I like soltitude as long as I have someone to share it with!!!

Solitude |ˈsäləˌt(y)oōd| noun the state or situation of being alone : she savored her few hours of freedom and solitude. • a lonely or uninhabited place.
Can't stand that city, all that noise, and strife ... guess I will keep rollin', rollin all my life.
