As you may recall I am converting an 8V71T industrial engine to use in my MCI bus. my engine seems to me to have three easily accessible external oil line feeds. One on the drivers side rear that feeds the oil pressure manifold and the alternator, one above the starter motor that feeds the power steering pump drive gear, and one at the front of the passenger side, above the fuel filters, that feeds the compressor.
My questions are - is there another external oil port that I can use for the turbo, and should the turbo have a dedicated oil feed or can it share with the compressor, the alternator or the power steering pump gear. I have read about adding a port at the front of the engine where the pressurized oil comes in from the oil filter, would that be a good place to pull oil for the turbo?
Part of my problem with working this out is I don't know if pulling oil out there would starve the main bearings, or if the bearings inside the turbo have enough resistance that they won't actually pull much oil out, or if a restriction to control oil flow needs to be added to any of these?
Any ideas?
Thanks, Brian
DD has template to tap the front of the engine on either side I just checked and cannot find my template 7/16 drill and 1/2 tap not hard to do the sliver engines came with the tap and plug for front mounted turbos they want the supply line for the turbo as close as possible
good luck
