My childhood dream was to be a bus driver when I grew up. Loved everything diesel, even loved the smell of diesel exhaust. As it turned out life never took me down the road to be a bus driver... probably better off like I am. Anyway, back in 2003 I started out on the yahoo boards. Read a lot and tried to take it all in. My first bus was a 1980 GMC. Bought it back in 2003. Had no clue what I was doing. All I knew was I wanted a bus. Finally decided I would never get the GM fixed up enough and converted, partially due to a onery back. End the end, I bought a mostly converted MC8 a year ago from a local fella. Is in much better shape than the GM. I sold/gave away the GM last Sept. I finally discovered the BNO board and joined it. Was disappointed in the yahoo boards, as for me anyway, lots of bickering. Months ago I discovered this board and I bought the online magazine subscription. Look forward each month to getting the new one. Every night once settled in, I pretty much spend the rest of the evening reading through all the posts on here... occasionally I post a question, but I always read and read and read. I feel like a smooch sometimes, because I do not know enough to contribute, so I want to offer a thank you to all of you regular guys on here. For one, I would be lost in this endeavor without the vast knowledge on this board. For the most part, even when you guys disagree, you agree to disagree and move on... not like the other boards. No wonder this one gets more traffic. Thanks again for all of you.

I think what works on this board is to just hope somebody else does something dumber than I did, then hope he admits to it. LOL
My early bus experience sort of mimics yours. When I was in school, I was the nerd riding in the stepwell and carrying the flag. Say what you will, but I sure learned some good driving, shifting, and snowing driving techniques during those years! Of course, sitting in class day dreaming about driving didn't help my report cards or SAT scores, but if my mom was alive, I could prove to her that now that I'm retired, it all worked out. I'm pretty sure she's rolling her eyes right now, seeing that I have my own bus. :)
If it wasn't for this BB, I never would have bought a bus. I don't provide much advice here. I just help provide some of the dumb questions! But, thanks for the comments. I feel the same way.
Marilyn and I plan to get out into KY with the bus before another year is out. Maybe we can get together.

Interesting. Its amazing how many here have many of the same stories and interests, many love the smell of diesel, been tow truck operators, owned sports cars, etc.. Makes you wonder if there is any one single common draw to these things.
Though some are gear heads, many others are not, so its not engines that draw us. Many claim they are safer than any other RV, but I liked buses long before I cared if anything was safe. So I know its not safety that draws us. And I dont think it has anything to do with commanding a large vehicle, as some are scared of them even though they own it.
It makes you wonder if its something in our childhood past, something that screams freedom and adventure on some level we cant quite explain. I ask, because even though I want one, and im thinking of all the excuses I can to justify it, in the end its complete overkill and totally unnecessary. But I will say, seeing a greyhound rolling down the freeway was always a big treat when we traveled. Maybe its like the ultimate cool car.

Don't recall you posting much on the Yahell GMC busnuts group, that group's a lot quieter nowadays compared to 8 - 10 years ago.
Oh, and we're all a little crazy to be involved with this hobby - that's why we're called "Bus Nuts!"
