We plan to head down I-35 to the Corpus Christi/Port Aransas area for a week at the end of March. Any ideas of interesting places to stay? Things to see while we are there? Other bus nuts in the neighborhood? Or definitely stay away? Just thinking it looks like a warm place to go to escape the Minnesota winter.
Fred
We are in Aransas Pass which is 20 miles north of Corpus Christi and just across the channel (a short ferry ride)from Port Aransas. There are many nice RV parks in the area. We own lots in a RV/Mobile Home community that also has a few RV rental sites. We don't have a lot of amenities here if you are after those but we know many parks close by do have. Rockport is just 10 miles north of us with many parks. We love Port Aransas and go there often to fish, sun on the beach, dolphin watch and eat. This is a great birding area if you are interested and Corpus Christi has lots to offer. As far as bus nuts in the area, we will be here possibly until the end of March, the other two busnuts in our park will be gone by then.

order the Texas Travel Guide you can do that on line lot to see on your way down also
good luck
Check out RVparkreviews.com. They have listings and ratings for lots of campgrounds. Also, you won't be that far from our rally so why not stop by Franklin on your way home???
Bubbagal,
Now that I know where we're going (??!!) I noticed we will be nearby. We may not make it to Texas until Monday. Not sure. But I already looked the rally up on the map! Thanks for the invite.

Sounds like fun Fred. I sure do wish I was heading south this weekend myself, but I have to work.
Have a great time!
Terry,
We don't really know what we're up to. Just going to head south and the Port Aransas area looks interesting. We have a nine year old son who is up for most anything but typically gets more out of campgrounds with some kid type attractions. We also think just in general it would be cool to be close to a beach for a night or two. We'll have a toad along so we can easily do some sight seeing.
Brian - why don't you and the family come along? I'd love to draft you the whole way down I-35. Can you keep that thing under 80?

I could try, if I have to, I guess ...
Fred, we mostly know about parks for the "senior set" and don't know of any that caters to kids but that doesn't mean there are none. You might check a Woodalls campground book. It should tell you what each park/campground has to offer. In Port Aransas you can camp right on the beach(dry camp) or there is a city campground on the beach with hook ups. There is also Mustang Island State park, south of Port A, on highway 361, also on the beach. There is also a nice aquarium in Corpus Christi.

Try Goose Island State Park. It is off the beaten path and campsites are right on Aransas Bay. Good fishing right from your campsite.
Can anyone tell Me if one can take bus on the ferry from corpus over to the island? John L
No problem with a bus.
Took our Prevost towing a Suburban on that ferry in '07 with no problems.
John
+1 on the ferry. No problem at all.
What about Mustang Island state park. I know they once had RV spaces but I do not know if they are big enough to support a bus.
Being from TX I should know, but I really don't get a kick out of the coast anymore. When they had the Casino boat.......... well that is different!
Anyone else know?
