Title: Folding dining table
Post by: chuckd on March 08, 2011, 11:01:13 AM
The present table in my Prevost folds, it has a 14inch by 27 inch wide top in the folded position and a 27 wide by 37 long in the extended position.  The mechanism to hold it upright is poorly designed.  Does anyone have a design for a folding table that is slightly smaller, and fairly robust in the extended position.

Thanks

Chuck

Check with member "Runcutter".  He made a beautiful folding table for his coach.

I made a folding table by using two thirds of an antique drop-leaf table made of solid quarter-sawn white oak.  Quite outstanding flame grain on it.  Stable as heck, and kind of unique.  The best part is it took all of around an hour to install...  I detached the one wing I wasn't going to use, trimmed the top, screwed it to a flange in the wall of the bus, screwed the fixed legs down, and done.

So a flea-market antique table may work for you!

here are some pics of my table.  It was around $100 at a flea market maybe 10 years ago, my mother in law had it as a side table till she moved into a retirement apartment.

I bought a 20x42" by 2" thick oak board that I am going to finish and mount to the wall with a heavy piano hinge and folding braces under it so I can fold it against the wall. I also ran across some oak folding chairs on Ebay that really don't look like folding chairs. The table and chairs we had took up to much room and didn't work well.

I bought a single pedestal 24 in round oak table with 2 folding leaves and 2 charis off craigslist for 50 bucks and refinished the top. Look like new. We tore out our knook(never did like it) and put in the table. It and the chairs are free standing that we can secure for traveling. It is SO much nicer and gives us much more room. So far we have only ever used it with one leaf extended. It suits us perfectly.
