That slide out really comes out looks like about 6 ft . I would be scared to put any weight on it.
Look to be more like fold outs than true slide outs. Just what all campers need, having to pay for three spots because no one can fit in beside you. Some converters seem to enjoy taking on big engineering projects without thinking about if it is practical to actually use. Geez.... ::)

Maybe they remember when campgrounds actually gave you enough space to feel like you were "camping"?

Yes, they're fold-outs. Perfectly acceptable engineering, although more work to deploy and sealing is a bit hit-and-miss. If you go to a fairground and walk around the back of the smaller stalls and rides (fast food outlets, rifle range attractions etc) you will see that many of them are vehicles with fold-outs to make the inside bigger.
