Title: How Critical Are Running Lights?
Post by: Lin on February 27, 2011, 05:15:36 PM
I noticed that my left rear roof running light was out.  No big deal-- change the bulb, right.  I did that and still no light, so I opened the fixture and saw it had a really badly corroded ground.  No big deal--take it apart and clean it.  Still no light.  Oh my, the ground lead to the bulb came loose.  No big deal-- remove the parts and solder a new wire to it.  Still no light.  A little testing revealed that although all the other running lights a lit, this one is not getting current. Yes big deal.  Getting further down to look for a broken wire is not an exciting option and running a new one from a neighboring light is not easy either unless I was going to run it on the surface, which seems almost to tacky even for me.  So the solution I thought of was to forget about it for now.  Is there any problem with that?

Go to the dollar store and buy a couple of those white led reading lights. Turn it on and stick it in the lens at night until you get it home, if not having a light is going to be a ticket magnet. I doubt it will burn all night, but for a $1, get several.
